Asked in 2010 about former Alaska Governor and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, Mrs Bush was damning.
'I sat next to her once, thought she was beautiful,' she told an interviewer before adding 'I think she's very happy in Alaska, and I hope she'll stay there."
Sounds like she had a sense of humour, at least.

redbreegull 04-18-2018 03:40 PM

last night band practice got awkward cause the band leader kept saying all this shit about barbara bush being a "fascist bitch" and the bass player called him on it and said she just cared about libraries and shit

Cool As Ice Cream 04-18-2018 04:51 PM

ok, ram27. thanks for letting us know.

smashingjj 04-18-2018 05:58 PM

smashingjj 04-18-2018 05:59 PM

mostly giving annoying monologue right now while the rest of us wait to start the song

FoolofaTook 04-18-2018 07:48 PM

what's the name of your band?

redbreegull 04-18-2018 08:07 PM

undecided as of yet. the singer band leader guy writes the songs and it's really his band but the rest of us do not like the name he has chosen.

I keep coming up with random names (like from the band name thread) but they keep getting shot down. Last night I was pushing for Horse Crimes

When news of Desert Storm was being shared on the nightly news in New Zealand, in '91 (which of course, we watched dutifully every night, like every other family in New Zealand) my communist father nicknamed George Bush Snr. "Satan Bush", so my first impression of the Bush family was that they were terrible, heartless lizard people.

But it seems like Barbara Bush was a good woman.

vixnix 04-18-2018 08:20 PM

I'm sorry to refocus this thread so ungraciously but I am really surprised to find out that she was pro-choice and pro-gun control, and a fairly liberal republican.

Now I either have to accept that a good woman was married to an evil oil tycoon who used his elected office to expand his private enterprises and then encouraged his son to do the same

Or I have to rethink the wars in Iraq

This is all...too much

redbreegull 04-18-2018 08:29 PM

I mean she said plenty of racist shit we could talk about. I guess she was relatively decent for the mother of a completely evil dumbass piece of garbage war criminal

vixnix 04-18-2018 08:37 PM

The BBC obit painted her as being concerned with universal literacy and civil rights...which at face value makes her sound pretty not racist.

I looked for racist comments she had made but I couldn't find any...

Well perhaps she couldn't help that, he must have inherited those genes from his father, Satan Bush

redbreegull 04-18-2018 08:41 PM

I mean like saying Katrina was good for the citizens of New Orleans while people, mostly black people, were still drowning and starving and being washed away?

that is at the very best an amazingly stupid and tone deaf thing to say

redbreegull 04-18-2018 08:43 PM

I'm not saying she is her husband or her son, but she's also not like great

Quote:

And so many of the people in here [the Astrodome], you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them,”
she also victim-shamed Anita Hill when she came forward with allegations against Clarence Thomas who was *shockingly* appointed by her husband and I also recall her defending Pat Buchanan's "America First" bullshit when everyone was calling him out on his racism

reprise85 04-18-2018 08:48 PM

she was a old school republican from before they went crazy. pretty sure she didnt vote for trump

redbreegull 04-18-2018 08:58 PM

I'm just confused by how liberal people suddenly want to cozy up to the Bushes now that there's a new enemy. This lady at best is still worse than Hillary Clinton so. I just don't feel the need to praise anyone from a deeply destructive political dynasty which has resulted in the destabilization of entire governments and the deaths of maybe millions of people worldwide :/

not directed at you in particular vix, I'm just feeling testy.

PuzzledMuzzle 04-19-2018 05:14 AM

Also she killed a guy. That car crash and all, she ran a stop-sign.

PuzzledMuzzle 04-19-2018 05:15 AM

I don't personally have anything against her tho.

Sonic Johnny 04-19-2018 07:50 AM

Twitter had a very good day with this one but at the end of the day it was the onion who absolutely nailed it

TuralyonW3 04-19-2018 09:57 AM

Completely inconsequential

yo soy el mejor 04-21-2018 01:31 AM

But a lot of the old-school establishment Republicans did vote for Trump.

Not because they liked him, but because party identification in the U.S. is so strong that people will vote for you so long as you have the right letter next to your name on the ballot.
