Six-year-old Stephen Romero is the first of the dead to be identified by local media. His mother and grandmother were wounded. A 13-year-old girl and a man in his 20s were also killed.

At least 15 people were transported to hospital, according to officials from the four hospitals where victims were brought. At least 12 were treated for gunshot wounds, according to health officials.

You a big fan of garlic festivals?

ovary 07-30-2019 05:01 AM

garlic is pretty miraculous. stick a clove in the ground in october and in july dig up a head. can you imagine food without garlic? i think it deserves celebration as much as, perhaps even more so than, any other vegetable. certainly any other allium!

Big fan of taking thirty seconds to look things up, and of maybe not joking so consistently about innocent people getting murdered

redbreegull 07-30-2019 02:15 PM

it is weird that he literally only comes to this board to bump the people died in a shooting thread

Fonzie 07-30-2019 03:19 PM

You do understand the point of this whole thread, right?

Perhaps you could explain the point of this whole thread?

Mass shootings are so frequent, Americans must be getting used to them like they were a common inconvenience like traffic jams.

I feel sorry for people like you who just want to be good people and get on with your lives in relative safety, but due to factors outside your control (and to be honest I see no chance of the US ever making the “right choice”) you’re stuck with the spectre of some mentally deranged person taking all their frustrations on a bunch of innocent kids.

I live in a place where I don’t have to live with the fear of something like this ever happening. Conversely, I don’t live in a country where we feel we need to be armed in the case of the gummint goes rogue or whatever 18th century bullshit people hang their hat on.

Are we going to be serious in this thread or sarcastic? That should be made clear in every thread title.

pavementtune 07-30-2019 04:51 PM

I got some hilarious jokes about the Christchurch massacre, somehow you didn't bump this thread when your own country had a mass shooting, Fonzie. The one chance to say "fuck it" as insider, and you missed it!

Nope

redbreegull 07-30-2019 11:30 PM

at least he lives somewhere where he doesn't have to worry about this happening. remember, a mass shooting in new zealand is impossible

Shallowed 07-31-2019 02:55 AM

It should be more difficult now that our gun control laws have been strengthened.

Mals Marola 07-31-2019 11:44 AM

ok

redbreegull 07-31-2019 12:41 PM

I learned after the Christchurch shooting that NZ actually has a fairly robust gun culture

Shallowed 07-31-2019 05:11 PM

You as an American telling me that as a New Zealander isn't so much like the pot calling the kettle black, but like a completely rusted through pot calling a kettle fairly charred.

vixnix 07-31-2019 05:29 PM

I think our gun culture is probably similar to Canada’s, it’s mostly about hunting and pest control, but it does seem to be changing. Most of my husband’s family are farmers and I’m pretty sure most of them own guns. Certainly going back 20 years if you had a lame sheep or whatever you weren’t going to call a vet, you’d shoot it and toss it in the offal pit.

But I do think it’s changing. I’m not bothered by farmers having guns but I don’t think anyone in the suburbs should have one, there’s no reason for one, beyond the satisfaction that comes from an enjoyable hobby. Seeing the outcome of the gun amnesty, it’s encouraging that a fair few decent people are prepared to give up that hobby for the common good.

Of course, none of the people that the amnesty is hoping to disarm, will voluntarily give up their weapons. And it seems like our police force has no idea who these people are, despite having a tiny, stable, isolated population that it should be easy to monitor. So we have some significant problems ahead of us

This is so desperately sad.

How have we collectively allowed ourselves to get to this point

Two women who worked with a group called Mothers Against Senseless Killings were shot dead Friday in the South Side Chicago neighborhood where they volunteered to curb gun violence. Police say they don't believe the two young mothers were the intended targets.

yo soy el mejor 07-31-2019 09:01 PM

yeah they just said 'wrong place, wrong time' but those two mothers were in the right place and not at the wrong time. more victim blaming from useless cops. and chicago will continue to under-serve these communities.

yo soy el mejor 08-01-2019 12:25 AM

and guns will flow like water everywhere

mothers against senseless killings: what kind of killing isn't senseless? i feel the answer should be really obvious, but i just can't think of it.
and are those mothers not against that type of killing then?

I think someone who kills in self defense is that obvious answer you couldn't find.
