Dexter / Entourage / John From Cincinnati appreciation threadI
I watched those three shows almost religiously for a while. John From Cincinnati is the odd one out cus it only lasted one season but it was really great while it was on.
|
Great thread, I can't wait to participate.

Ladies and Gentlemen: Kimono Sharter.

I've never heard of John From Cincinnati, but the grouping makes for a pretty scathing review.
|
dexter. Yes, fucking best series ever.
|
i tried very hard to like dexter but i couldn't get into it. strange because i love serial killer stuff. maybe i just knew this wasn't real and therefore it was ruined for me. like serial killer santa.
|
I have a friend who tried to brainwash me into watching Dexter.
The thousand ways she described how attractive the main guy was just fell flat with me :D |
dexter season 1 i will go to bat for but that's it. there was one part that legit made me feel overwhelmed/disgusted/surprised beyond what most things do. i cant think of many non-documentaries that can do that to me. of course most of it is campy but there was one scene, man. avoiding spoilers.
|
aw come on now i gotta know what was it?
spoilers, highlight to reveal: was it Rita's death? |
dexter had some good moments, but as a whole that show went from being decent to being so horrifically bad it's not even funny.
the last few seasons, like 6-7-8, are the hall of shame kind of bad for me. |
everything after season 2 was a complete snoozefest
the series finale is a pretty good general reference point of how not to do a series finale |
First season was groundbreaking I reckon, second season was alright, after that I lose track but when he fell in love and had kids it was all over red rover. That shit wasn't supposed to happen on Dexter.

I've weirdly seen episodes of 2/3 of these shows
both shittttt omg boring |
the way they conveniently placed dexter's child somewhere in the far, far background, and only having dexter deal with him by having some line involve a babysitter once every 4-5 episodes, was a prime example of how never, ever ever to write a script.
literally one glaring example in a sea of flaws. |

spoiler: it was that fucking hotel room with the ocean of blood in it that gave dexter a panic attack |
Dexter's Child is my favorite underrated girl group

i can literally list all the great moments from dexter right here:
first season blood hotel room rita's death deb shooting laguerta cabin in the woods blowing up w/ doakes in it the show had so many things wrong with it. the whole dexter can look up anything about anyone and no one knows (someone gets looked up and then murdered, usually). his kid being a non-issue. the fucking ending. him falling in love with that woman and still trusting her after she tried to kill him and deb. his fucking protege and that therapist who all came and got murdered and it didn't matter at all to dexter or to us. i mean so much |

But every american citizen is a potential serial killer the Medical Detectives show has taught me!

See I don't care about that, I came to Dexter as a Misdomer Murders fan. So they can have as many killers and deaths as they like. But transforming the main character from one season to another, in amongst all of the ridiculous storylines, that's just a recipe for disaster IMO. Nobody wanted Dexter to grow. Nobody wanted that. There's no entertainment value in that, except cheap laughs you can get from anywhere.
|
but but but, he DID grow!
HE HAD A BABY! |
if you go and watch the first season, you can see how much he changed from eating cuban sandwiches in his car and printing out pictures of victims to hang up when he kills the killers and stalking people with his murder outfit to thinking it was fun to play games with the ice truck killer etc. he was just constantly in the moment and just a mischievous, viscerally driven man.
|
see that was back when Dexter was good
