Not fully understanding "Family Ties" when I was younger
 

When I was little I would watch reruns of Family Ties and I thought it was funny but I didn't fully understand until later how subversive it was as far as dealing with the opposing values of Alex Keaton's hippie parents and his more conservative Reagan era values. Or how his character was kind of a satire on 80s materialism. Like in some ways it was just as subversive as All In The Family with its themes of opposing values of Archie Bunkers generation and his liberal hippie son in laws values.
