Can you drive a standard? 🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗🚘🚘🚘🚘🚘🚘🚘🚘🚘🚘

I sort of can. I learned how to drive on automatic, but my so has only ever driven a standard (12 years for one clutch!), so I've dabbled. I would like to one day own a standard so I can get all that better fuel mileage and control over speed. Hbu?

myosis 02-09-2017 12:42 PM

personally i hate driving automatic

myosis 02-09-2017 12:43 PM

you'll get a feel for it with practice and it will become second nature

The Omega Concern 02-09-2017 12:43 PM

I can barely remember the last car I had that wasn't a stick shift. If I'm in the mood and have the time, it's cool to 'hypermile' and coast as often as possible and get that mpg up.

How much do you get? My guy has an older civic hatch so the mpg is substantial. Probably high 30s-40s. I also drive a civic but it's newer. Two generations makes a big difference

ohnoitsbonnie 02-09-2017 01:07 PM

I still, as it is, don't pay out the ass for gas. I just want more as well as the fun of driving. I want to feel like I'm driving and not just pushing a button

I see people use their brakes to slow down all the time. Floor it, tap on the brakes. Over and over. Using the brakes in a turn for the friction instead of steering...

duovamp 02-09-2017 01:14 PM

7 of my last 8 cars had manual transmissions. The only one that didn't was a Subaru Legacy beater I got for winter and sold after like 8 months.

ohnoitsbonnie 02-09-2017 01:14 PM

mercedes drivers: lemme just speed up to a few feet behind you when you're already going 80 in the left lane and get all pissed that u don't speed up to 99 so the only thing to do is swerve into the center lane and continue along being a jerk and bad driver

They stopped putting standard transmissions in legacies. I really like the car too :(

duovamp 02-09-2017 01:23 PM

It's almost impossible to find an AWD car with a manual now. Other than Ford, Subaru, and VW/Audi I can't think of any off the top of my head. Maybe Volvo has model I don't know about with a stick. Good luck finding a truck with a manual too. And a manual SUV? Fuhgidaboutit.

duovamp 02-09-2017 01:24 PM

Wait I forgot a few. I had a couple others that were autos.

1983 Datsun 280ZX - auto
2002 Acura RSX - auto
2002 Acura RSX Type-S - manual
1993 Nissan 240SX that never ran - auto
1997 BMW M3 - manual
2009 Nissan 370Z - manual
1998 Subaru Legacy wagon - auto
2005 Subaru Impreza RS coupe - manual
2009 BMW 135i - manual
1997 Chevy S10 - manual
2017 Toyota 86 - manual

One of the ford focuses. Mike considered buying on but we're going with another civic hatch

Excuse me but that is a Subaru BRZ 🙄🙄🙄

duovamp 02-09-2017 01:41 PM

Scion is killed for 2017. It's sold as a BRZ and a Toyota. I bought the Toyota.

ohnoitsbonnie 02-09-2017 01:49 PM

duovamp 02-09-2017 01:52 PM

I think so! That was the first day of the year that it was above 50. Today we have 5 inches of snow on the ground. :(

RIGHT NOW!!! :

Are you gonna get another awd or even front wheel drive for the snow? How is the BRZ/FRS/86 in the stuff?

duovamp 02-09-2017 02:05 PM

Nice! Those Civics are so pretty. And yours looks really clean. The digital speedometers are cool too.

duovamp 02-09-2017 02:10 PM

It's okay. It has an alright limited-slip differential but it's pretty light. This is the fourth RWD car I've had (that worked), and the two biggest factors for snow driving are tires and weight. As long as I have this truck to beat on in winter, I'll avoid the snow like the plague purely to keep this car from turning into a rust bucket.

Thank you, I try to keep it nice :). I'm so used to the digital.

I've had two Honda DX's over the years. low 40's mpg was typical. Anymore I don't really have a car; I drive a Honda insight that gets mid-50's to 60+ mpg and a Jeep, neither of which is great for carrying gear around.

exactly, i hate that behavior. they say nowadays that automatic has better fuel economy, but this can't be true for people who drive like that.

myosis 02-09-2017 02:52 PM

i don't know how to calculate mpg, here it's how many liters per 100 km, but my civic does good

Elphenor 02-09-2017 03:01 PM

No

ohnoitsbonnie 02-09-2017 03:28 PM

Ok thanks Elph
