United States states you've been to or traveled to

Maybe this one will get me into trouble too.

I have been to and spent time:
NJ - raised but not born here
PA - 2 many excursions and overnight stays
NY state + NYC - Ithaca for a week.
MD - visited a friend, got lunch, bought a piece of furniture?? Trash state
NC - week, blue ridge mnts, vacation
IA - a week
MO (briefly, but a hike is significant)
TN- lunch and a hike also got gas and did a shoutout to the carter family in bristol
CA- have been to LAX and SFO but not outside of the airport :(
DE- garbage state, drove thru
VA- pretty state. Peed a little. Arlington is boring I guess
WV- scared all the way thru but pretty. drove
FL- many trips and excursions on both sides of the state but not extreme south or north
MA- stayed at MIT dorms as a child
CT- possibly have driven through
Edit: I have been to D.C. Many times

Pretty lame right? Hoping to get to VT and ME for a vacation (as well as yurop soon enuff, but that's a digferent theead) on the way up to CANADA for some fun

ohnoitsbonnie 02-06-2017 03:52 PM

Sorry NH. I would also try to ******* you

Michigan is high on the list because it's so iconic + beautiful. Mike is from there so we'll go one day. Will visit trash illinois in that time as well as indiana and trash ohio.

FL: raised but not born, lived from 1-15 and from 19-now. all in palm beach and broward counties. miami metro area (which is huge, i'm like 50 miles from miami)

NY: born but not raised

LA: lived from 15-19. lived in a town of 1000 people. the landscape was alternately beautiful (woods, farms, pastures) and terrifying (dense woods at nights, swamps). the people were almost all shitty and the town was like a high school. also i may be biased.

PA: visited several times when my aunt lived here. saw snow here 2 of the 3 times i've ever seen it. don't remember very much, i was like 10 and under

DE: went here with my aunt, to meet up with her friend and the friend's kids. there's no sales tax.

D.C.: went on a class trip here. a south florida tradition for 5th graders. it snowed a lot the first day we were there. got in a big snowball fight that was fantastic. saw some awesome stuff, especially the Smithsonian

OK: visited my ex's friend here once. it was a really weird trip. first and only time i've ever seen any kind of mountainous areas up close. cliffs of rock near the highway? wtf is this magic?

NC: orange peel to see SP in 2007. seemed like a great town but we didn't see much of it.

MS: went to some casino here right across the board from louisiana. that's all i remember.

drove through: GA, TX, SC, VA (train thru to get to DC)

i think that's it

Yeah, I resented it a ton as a kid/teen but now I appreciate it the more I grow older. I'd still love to visit/live on the West Coast for a while before I die just to change it up a bit.

This is such a vague list, but it adds to the intrigue. I can only imagine which you've driven to and which you've flown and why

I didn't know the orange peel is in Asheville. I didn't explore that place enough. I forgot to add DC. We go down there often enough (actually Arlington but you cross from there to actual DC rly easily) because M's dad works there for the government

Yeah. Washington was when I was 5. Flew out with my sisters and stayed with my dad for the summer.

California – visited the LA area twice in 2015 to see a soul-destroying saxophonist Jewess
Colorado – visited archaeologist ex-girlfriend near Mesa Verde in 2014. We also went to Telluride
Connecticut – my great grandma's funeral was here when I was in 6th grade
Delaware – driven through countless times, spent the day in Rehoboth once
Florida – visited my grandparents in Boca a few times many years ago, also been to Jacksonville
Georgia – not sure if I've ever had a destination in Georgia but I've driven through
Illinois – my dad and I took a road trip to Chicago when I was in high school
Indiana – drove through/stayed in Indiana on said trip
Kentucky – took another road trip through the South also in high school
Maryland – born and raised. Lived in central MD and also in the south. BTW anyone from Jersey has very little room to call other states trash
Michigan – stayed at a red roof inn right over the Michigan line on my trip to Chicago
New Jersey – my mom's family is from here, spent many summers here as a kid
New York – haven't been to the city in over a decade, but I love upstate.
North Carolina – driven through many times both on the way to SC and checking out the mountains in the West. An old ex's dad was stationed at Camp LeJune, it was one of the worst places I have ever been
Ohio – driven through a few times. once I went to a show in Wheeling, it was a long drive from MD.
Pennsylvania – other than MD I've been to PA more than any other state. It's a great place to just drive around and feel like you are "getting out of town" or whatever. Some really nice scenery, shit roads. Archaeologist ex girlfriend was from Lancaster.
South Carolina – I have family in Charleston. Been here many times. Quite nice as long as you don't stray far from the highways
Tennessee – hit up ol' Tennessee on my road trip through the South
Utah – spent a day in Utah at Moab when I was in CO
Virginia – I guess actually I've probably been to VA more than any other state aside from MD, but I hate VA it sucks.
West Virginia – been here many times as well. home to 28if

NY - stayed in Harlem for three weeks altogether, had a few nights on the upper west side.
LA - New Orleans for five nights
IN - went to stay with the family of a guy I met in NY, was in Indianapolis (Irvington) for nearly a month I guess. He went to uni in Bloomington so we went down there for a show, once - in a basement! In was the now defunct Chicago band Nymb. They were cool. And out to his friend's parents' cabin in the middle of nowhere to watch a meteor shower. So, so flat.

IL - Chicago for five nights - on the last night, we saw Nymb again, at the Metro. Cool club. The guy who drove us up there knew where Crogan's house was so we went and had a look. Stalkers.

I landed at LAX, and stopped in Greyhound bus stations all the way between NY and LA, then LA to IN, then IN to NY.

Only talked to another human in Mobile, AL - he saw my guitar and he had one, too. Told me he'd been arrested once for "flippin the burrrd" as he crossed the road, and that this was the Bahble Belt. So many Christian damnation-and-hellfire billboards and radio stations down there.

Hanging with the kool kids in IN made me realise how lame everybody thought the pumpkins were. I was embarrassed to be a fan. This was 1999. When I got to London, the pumpkins were actually playing and I could have gone, but I was still too embarrassed to be a fan, so I didn't.

MyOneAndOnly 02-06-2017 10:57 PM

I hope the 2nd ave subway Q is extended further into Harlem so the good people there have more transportation options

California - born here (Hayward) / went on a family trip for two weeks in 1994 (Southern & Northern) / went back in 1995 when my gpa was having health issues (Southern) / visited fam in 2000 (Fremont) / road tripped in 2001 for my sister's wedding (Fremont) / spent a few days in 2005 for a wedding (Fremont) / and of course the 2008 misadventures with Monte (SF/Fremont)

Kansas - grew up here (Kansas City) / go to Lawrence fairly regularly / went to Wichita when I was in the band to play a show at some dive bar

Missouri - have lived here since 2001; will probably die here (Kansas City) / of course have gone to St Louis a bunch; saw Kill Hannah in Springfield in 2004; went on a summer float trip in Lebanon in 2012; took the kid on a dad/daughter road trip to Fugitive Beach (Rolla) and Uranus.

Illinois - endless road trips to Chicago (2001, 2002-4, 2006-2009, 2011-2015)

Texas - road tripped with teen church youth group in 1998 (Longview), helped bury my grandpa in 2013 (Pharr) but also went to the Alamo (San Antonio), visited a different border town last year while B was down there opening a store (Laredo/San Antonio for weekend hangs)

Indiana - went on quite a number of road trips growing up to the now-infamous megachurch First Baptist for church conferences and youth trips - a lot of good memories, despite it all (Hammond)

New Mexico - spent 8 days in this beautiful state when I had a vague plan to move here (Albuquerque/Taos/Roswell/Four Corners)

Arizona - B was living there for about half a year and I visited her there for about 4 or 5 days in 2006 (Scottsdale)

Georgia - road tripped to see my cousin get married in 2011, also saw some sites (CNN HQ/civil rights stuff) and one civil rights display (a specific picture to be exact) made me tear up/start crying so much that I had to dip in the bathroom; crazy time in my life that I'm a little nostalgic about (Marietta/Atlanta)

Tennessee - spent some sight seeing time here in 2011 on my way to cousin's wedding (Nashville and Graceland, natch)

Kentucky - spent my short time in the US Army here in 2003/4 (Ft. Knox ofc)

Alabama - went to the NASA thang on my way back from Georgia in 2011; had a cop tell me i couldn't sleep in my car so I rented a shit hole motel for one night (Huntsville)

Iowa - road tripped to see Kill Hannah in 2003 (Iowa City)

Nebraska - road tripped a number of times for shows (YYY, Blood Brothers, etc) (Omaha)

Nevada/Utah/Oklahoma/Colorado - drive throughs

I think that's it,.
