I have thought about how weird it would be to be a rat. I just grab them out of their cage while sleeping and kiss their heads (keep in mind the size difference here).

you don't, my impression is to give the cat the impression it is your tongue and you're grooming them. otherwise it is just essentially a brush like any other

I have a big lab and she'll bring you a chew toy and lay it in your lap
if you don't play with her she'll go and get another chew toy to put in your lap like "oh well what about this one"
