ftr i'd probably get the willies if a rat ran down my shirt but obviously if it was a pet i'm sure i wouldn't but i can't imagine having a rat as a pet because that's not my thing

i know we are just as removed from rats as we are from cats and dogs (although we were 'domesticated' and evolved at the same time dogs did so there's something to be said for that) but it still doesn't feel the same, probably because you don't grow up seeing people with pet rats all the time

I was afraid of dogs as a child. My whole family was. We had a pet rat before we had a pet dog...

Actually kind of a weird story. At our house in piscataway (so I was under 8) this white rat found its way to the kitchen side door which was up a lot of steps and I remember my mom feeding him and then taking pity on him before putting him in an aquarium filled wjth pine (oh my god). We fed him what we had for dinner and he was called "rat" and nobody handled him because we were afraid :( but I guess it beat dying outside, right?
