To be fair, I didn't even notice any allusions when I read them as a child. I remember my favorites, but only vaguely remember why:
1. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader - creepy and beautiful moments, good adventure. I like when they drank the pink water and it was sweet. Also, reepicheep
2. The Silver Chair - met<>a, care paravel
3. The Magician's Nephew - this is technically the first one, although I read TLWW first. It mentions an old, tired, swollen, red sun and I liked that

ohnoitsbonnie 01-05-2017 02:04 PM

Just read them both

For once I have to agree with Poots. Beware of preconceptions, dear elphenor.

Tolkien's universe is also super Christian, it's just not as blatant and tacky in its execution

FoolofaTook 01-05-2017 11:59 PM

Shit dune is about man becoming god.

LaBelle 01-06-2017 06:29 AM

Most artists will use their medium to convey their beliefs.
As long as it's not overly preachy, I don't see the big deal.

FoolofaTook 01-06-2017 10:10 AM

The muse does not discriminate. She comes and goes as she pleases.. She's not a tame lioness, you know, afterall. :)

FoolofaTook 01-06-2017 10:28 AM

Fuck i just took (LAWL) the time to read bonnies post fully.

yes the magicians nephew has Charn a dying world with a huge weak crimson sun. everything is dead except for Empress Jadis a powerful sorceress who used the Deplorable Word to defeat her sister.

And reepicheep is classic.

redbreegull 01-06-2017 11:05 AM

that's funny, I also specifically remember the description of the dying sun in the white witch's universe even though I haven't read the book since I was a kid

That's actually a cryptic message, means Silverchair will be going on a reunion tour this year.
