Myers-Brigg time again

I am an INFJ as usual

redbreegull 01-02-2017 06:00 PM

The online tests mean nothing to me personally, I always get different results. Anyway, the creators of the typology believed that a good familiarity with it would allow a person to type themselves better than any test.

I'm either an INFJ or an ENFJ. I think that my I/E is almost dead in the middle at this point in my life. I'm either a very social introvert or a shy and anxious extrovert.

ohnoitsbonnie 01-02-2017 06:05 PM

I am human and I need to be loved

Elphenor 01-02-2017 06:10 PM

I am a caged extrovert

MyOneAndOnly 01-02-2017 07:42 PM

Myers-Brigg is considered a joke in the field of psychiatry. It means nothing.

the reason that it has become so popular is that it can be packaged and sold, especially to business organizations which are suckers for systems like that which will categorize or measure the worth of their employees.

buzzard 01-02-2017 07:54 PM

There's this guy named Kimani Shorter who developed a way better system that has been endorsed by professionals in the field.

MyOneAndOnly 01-02-2017 07:56 PM

"the field" is made up of people who are not professionals. Like Catherine Wheel

Elphenor 01-02-2017 07:59 PM

seems obvious people's personalities are complex and fluid and can't be defined into types

redbreegull 01-02-2017 08:04 PM

it's just one lens to examine personality through. anyone who thinks it is scientifically based has no idea what they are talking about, but I don't think anyone here is under that impression

Elphenor 01-02-2017 08:11 PM

you sort of can gain a perspective on how they see themselves and in addition to knowing other attributes of their personality you could probably draw some conclusions

redbreegull 01-02-2017 08:30 PM

I've used it to do a lot of self-examination although it is also fun to gossip about people and type them

buzzard 01-02-2017 08:38 PM

I'm a Capricorn and I was born in the Year of the Snake.

Shallowed 01-02-2017 08:45 PM

I always get full introvert and around 50/50 for the others with these tests

redbreegull 01-02-2017 09:01 PM

at one point during new year's festivities, everyone was sitting in a circle typing all the characters from Rogue One. I made comment about how they were too poorly contextualized to accurately type them and was met with a hearty round of boos plus someone threw a kazoo at me

MyOneAndOnly 01-02-2017 09:25 PM

your friends sound like a nightmare

Yes ok but it makes for a kinda fun thread topic

FoolofaTook 01-02-2017 09:36 PM

I'm an Ares and I was born in the year of the Rat.

The rat I can dig cos of Cluny the Scourge. But war? Nope.

ohnoitsbonnie 01-02-2017 09:37 PM

The rat is the best one. I was born on the cusp of horse and sheep. So technically a horse

LaBelle 01-02-2017 09:43 PM

I'm a Gemini born in the year of the horse.

And I dislike horses.

it does

ohnoitsbonnie 01-02-2017 09:47 PM

Me too. Well if not dislike then "irrational fear".

ohnoitsbonnie 01-02-2017 09:50 PM

Times are changing; this is now a thread abour astrological signs. I'll contribute: I am an Aquarius. It just means I have a lousy season for a luau birthday party in the northern hemisphere

LaBelle 01-02-2017 09:53 PM

ohnoitsbonnie 01-02-2017 09:55 PM

Way to derail the thread

LaBelle 01-02-2017 09:56 PM

:D

reprise85 01-02-2017 09:56 PM

i get infj or intp usually, but yeah mbti is... not worthless, but really just a beginning point to learning about yourself. sometimes it comes up in courses or with classmates outside of class and i'm always the most cynical about it but you know, i was really enamored by it for a while so i get it. there's just much better tools out there and yes the mbti is accessible unlike something like the MMPI, but it takes so much compromise to make it so that it becomes relatively useless.

still it can be fun and surely two people who are INFJs are going to have a lot more in common than an INFJ and an ESTP or whatever. also psych disorders probably mess it up a lot, e.g. many depressed people will get infp just because that 'type' can superficially resemble any depressed person

ohnoitsbonnie 01-02-2017 09:58 PM

Yes my bf is also an infj and it shows. We are too similar.

ohnoitsbonnie 01-02-2017 09:58 PM

I want to be the personality type that makes you a good scientist

LaBelle 01-02-2017 10:00 PM

Gotta bump up those observant numbers.

I guess I'm an architect. Gonna start padding my resume.
