Eh, I think The Killers surpassed that and became their own thing pretty early on (and meanwhile, both Interpol and The Strokes fizzled out within a few years of hitting the big time). I get that it's not to everyone's tastes (especially if you step into each album looking for another Hot Fuss) and they've made a few baffling career choices, but I really, genuinely enjoy most of their stuff.

as far as mid 2000s bands trying to play post punk through a bruce springsteen filter go, I would say they are pretty average

FlamingGlobes 01-04-2017 06:23 PM

Recently rewatched Sixteen Candles with the ladyfriend for the first time in probably ten years and I was thinking the whole time "Man, this just isn't very funny anymore" (and not just the Long Duk Dong stuff). But looking at that last gif on infinite loop makes me think otherwise.

It's funny, I don't have much of a taste for Springsteen, but whenever The Killers push in that direction, I'm all ears.

yeah but hot fuss isn't like this at all and is great

i like their other albums too but hot fuss basically sounds like a different band

FlamingGlobes 01-04-2017 06:26 PM

They're not a band I would defend to the death or anything, but you gotta admit they have probably the strongest string of singles of any band of their era. Kinda like SP in the '90s in that regard.

you think hot fuss sounds like post punk bruce springsteen? it doesn't at all imo. sam's town and the rest, yes

redbreegull 01-04-2017 09:09 PM

I know they turned up the Springsteen on the second one which actually I did hear once when it came out, but yeah, I dunno I've always thought of their genre of music as Bruce Division Springsteen

Elphenor 01-04-2017 09:09 PM

I find Arcade Fire boring up until Reflektor

redbreegull 01-04-2017 09:10 PM

lol

Elphenor 01-04-2017 09:16 PM

I think I actually did listen to the Are We Human album once and immediately deleted it. Is the latest one actually worth checking out? Cause Killers were always a band that I kinda liked a bit but just couldn't seal the deal.

Isn't it a prerequisite that if you like Franz Ferdinand that you'll also like the Killers?

I can't believe the Nationals famous. They have the kinda songs where any old schmuck who's ever picked up a guitar is able to write.
