What are you going to do this year?

Don't call them resolutions, just... what would you like to accomplish this year? Assuming netphoria is still around and I am still around, I want to bump this next 12/31 and see how everyone did (yes I stole this from reddit)

I'd like to:
-apply to several top tier grad schools
-finish my honors thesis
-work my ass of in therapy and face some things i've been hiding from
-make a good friend
-lose 50 lbs

Elphenor 12-31-2016 08:20 PM

school and work at the same time
start up another music project
spend much more time away from home

vixnix 12-31-2016 09:36 PM

Focus on my family and my home as my first priority.
Eat low carb for a year.
Join a bible study group.
Exercise for 30 minutes every day.
Re-take the unit I didn't finish last semester.

buzzard 12-31-2016 10:14 PM

I'm going to get a couple of botox shots for the part of my lower back that underwear labels tickle and scratch at.

D. 12-31-2016 10:58 PM

I'm just going to continue eating healthy and exercising, but just try to get better sleep and also try not to fall too deeply into despair about the state of my life for the next 21 months.

crabshack 12-31-2016 11:11 PM

I'm going to get more into jazz and subsequently heroin.

cork_soaker 12-31-2016 11:13 PM

doing some drinking with a LOT of professional cyclists (with whom I'm friends)

ok first of all, i literally made a thread for this like yesterday so why just open up another one. dick move reprising my thread, reprise!

and second, can we all just fucking stop this worldwide phenomena where people annually promise themselves grandiose, idealized promises about becoming "better people" and "trying harder", only to forget about it a goddamn two weeks later and continue engaging in every shitty behavior we just vowed to change. it's basically like making a wish to the imaginary bearded man in the sky, or santa claus. it's all fucking ridding yourself of responsibility. making a change as a person doesn't happen because the norm is to decide on it so it lines of with a fucking NEW YEAR, it needs to happen organically because YOU feel like you need to change something about your conduct or life or behavior. and once you honestly make that decision, then you need to work towards it and be willing to word hard and spit blood doing it. sorry i'm ranting but it's a pet peeve of mine how many people are so content just by shitting out a bunch of self righteous words when 1.1.20XX comes and then completely forgetting about it the next day. this whole ritual is as constructive as saying 'HAPPY THANKSGIVING' before diving in that stuff chicken on your table.

honest change is hard and takes time, and commitment, and honest will. so don't fucking fart out some meaningless statements if you're not gonna follow up on them.

Rituals are important to me but I agree we can forget we're doing almost all the actual living in the long boring dizzy-making daychurning lengths in between them.

i feel like vixnix could express my sentiment of disdain towards this phoney modern landmark culture for spiritual change
far better than i could

vixnix, will you do me the honor?

Run To Me 01-01-2017 04:33 AM

Maybe she'll even write it as a poem if we're lucky and ask nice

reprise85 01-01-2017 06:12 AM

my "resolutions" are things i've already been starting to work on. i didn't intend people to write meaningless platitudes or things that they haven't even begun to think about yet. it was a way to organize my thoughts i guess.

sorry for reprising your thread, i thought it was just for new years plans but now i re-read the first post and see you had it in there. oops, sorry

Cool As Ice Cream 01-01-2017 06:34 AM

- i wouldn't mind losing some weight, but i don't think i want to commit to that.
- i will stop making new year's resolutions.

FoolofaTook 01-01-2017 06:53 AM

What joy is there in life if you're gonna be a cynic about everything?

Oh wait, I already know the answer to this question.
