Are there other band message boards
Where a bunch of negative asshats come and shit on the band and each other, or is that something peculiar to The Smashing Pumpkins
I don't know.
haha it really is a very particular community isn't it
yo vix go fck yrssssslf
I'm on other music boards and the only difference is better tastes in music
Also moderators |
like boards of people who mostly like punk music?
apparently there's a pearl jam board with asshats
i wonder if pearl jam fans post like eddie vedder
AAAAAAYHOOOOOHHHOO WAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIAAAAHAAAAAAAAAA GANAGANAGANAGANAWHOOOOAAAAAAAAAAA YEEAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH
Edit: nah nvm
i imagine whatever guns n roses boards there are out there wouldn't be the most positive towards the band's existence in the past 20-ish years
Actually, I found a Guns N' Roses forum a while back that was mostly made up of people defending Axl's bullshit, it was sort of beautiful in a sad kind of way.
To me the biggest difference between netphoria and most forums is moderation really. Even when netphoria had mods they were never any good. The things you'd see here would never fly in other forums (like people saying they wish other boarders would kill themselves to stuff like lemonparty). When I first joined that felt like I was sneaking into something I wasn't supposed to witness, and that was kind of interesting in a way. |
I've always kind of suspected that the nature of SP's music is attractive to people with certain personality disorders and Netphoria would seem to support that hypothesis, but maybe other boards would be equally like this without moderators
They're all the same, and so are boards about things other than bands. Non-music boards tend to squabble over details more, though
I've only belonged to a few forums. before Netphoria it was a Tolkien board, and the culture there was obviously very different. this was also a long time ago though, and before 4chan basically became the culture of the whole internet
before that I ran the 2nd most popular Banjo-Kazooie message board on the web. I was the worst/most aggressive/craziest poster there

The only thing approaching squabbles I see regularly are the shipper arguments where people disagree over which characters should hook up in movies/shows. |

The TV show forum I belong to is crazy nitpicky over details, but the show leaves a lot to speculation so people get competitive. The language exchange community is the nicest by far. I lurk a few different music forums but the people there are generally a little younger and it's too stupid for me to comment. Hormonal bullshit.
Even on the pumpkins boards, netphoria is a lot less fan fictiony and personally involved in BC and company than other artist's fans. Thank god.

uhh sex should never involve non-consensual penetration of someone's brain
also this dude killed his dad like really. rey deserves better
actually I hope they let Rey be an independent person and don't feel the need to bring a man into her story to make it significant. I loved how Finn began as a patronizing protective male but instead of her accepting it and getting with him (which is the trope, a la Taming of the Shrew), Rey is just like uhhh no but we can be friends if you can deal with that.
He is portrayed more like a damaged and misguided character than straight up evil, she could be the one to bring him back to the light. That's actually kinda romantic.
I don't see a problem with giving her a love interest, she can still be strong and independent in a relationship. |

I thought TFA felt very socially aware, and that was its biggest accomplishment beyond being an enjoyable and well executed film. Main characters who aren't white men. Villains who, instead of being military dictators, are cowardly sniveling alt-right type dudes. I dunno, it just felt very current.
That's true. I'm just not sure making her a celibate space nun is the right answer.
I just think that there are plenty of stories out there that allow male protagonists to be awesome and woman-free, but there are relatively few stories which do the opposite, and when they do, they are generally considered to be stories aimed at "women," something which is somehow considered a niche demographic. It would be nice to see a powerful female hero who doesn't need a man in her story to give her some kind of fairy tale ending.
The love story aspect of Star Wars has always been very poorly done IMO so that compounds why they should just let her do her... also the Jedi are supposed to aim for non-attachment and Anakin's failure in that was a huge contributor to his downfall. I think it would be cooler to see Finn and some new strong female character form a relationship where he can learn to stop trying to hold her hand in times of peril. |
Finn should def hook up with Poe :D
I would not be surprised to see a homosexual relationship of some sort in the next movie, although my guess is they wouldn't do it with established characters.
Although personally I've always thought a man as well-dressed as Lando Calrissian may have an eye for pool boys |
grizzled old lando with some male model types and a bottle of colt 45
Lando's cape was fabulous
He was acting all suave towards Leia, but that felt more like overcompensating. |
Bespin Cloud City. Tibanna gas mining operation, or front for one of the galaxy's most exclusive gay clubs?
I would like to see Rey fuck a few guys here and there but be unable to commit to any of them because her #1 priority is always fighting for the light side of the force to defend the universe against the dark side.
But have the guys still be interested in being a booty call because it's still an honour if a powerful woman wants to fuck you when she's in town. |
