there isn't a problem with it inherently, it's just a trope that every fuckin story ever falls back on and it would be nice to see this trilogy follow its pattern of turning such tropes on their heads in a huge mainstream action movie

I thought TFA felt very socially aware, and that was its biggest accomplishment beyond being an enjoyable and well executed film. Main characters who aren't white men. Villains who, instead of being military dictators, are cowardly sniveling alt-right type dudes. I dunno, it just felt very current.

That's true. I'm just not sure making her a celibate space nun is the right answer.

I just think that there are plenty of stories out there that allow male protagonists to be awesome and woman-free, but there are relatively few stories which do the opposite, and when they do, they are generally considered to be stories aimed at "women," something which is somehow considered a niche demographic. It would be nice to see a powerful female hero who doesn't need a man in her story to give her some kind of fairy tale ending.

The love story aspect of Star Wars has always been very poorly done IMO so that compounds why they should just let her do her... also the Jedi are supposed to aim for non-attachment and Anakin's failure in that was a huge contributor to his downfall. I think it would be cooler to see Finn and some new strong female character form a relationship where he can learn to stop trying to hold her hand in times of peril.

Finn should def hook up with Poe :D

I would not be surprised to see a homosexual relationship of some sort in the next movie, although my guess is they wouldn't do it with established characters.

Yeah, the best GNR forum is mygnrforum.com. It kinda reminds me of this place a little bit. Definitely full of jaded fans but unlike us, most still seem genuinely excited to go see the shows and there's more of a camaraderie with meetups organized at each show and stuff like that.

She won't have a love interest in the next two films. Her arc is to find her power and save the Galaxy. Just like Luke did.

I think Kathleen Kennedy will continue to show her as a strong powerful roll model with inner drive who doesn't need a man to complete her. Kind of like most films with male leads don't involve them needed a man.

I don't think Finn/Poe is doable because introducing a gay relationship would have to be treated in a sober way I think. It wouldn't be right to make it into a joke, and I think that's how it would be perceived, especially given their hey bro what's up bro that's one helluva pilot bro relationship in TFA
