Euro Soccerball 2016

Us Euros are going soccerball crazy over the next month, 24 nations - the biggest ever number - going against one another over the next month en La France*.

Well, tonight it all kicks off in Paris.

What's everyone's feeling about the whole shindig... who are we all rooting for... and is this even broadcast on TV stateside?

(* terrorism permitting)

i hope belgium does well.
i'm not very confident that they will, though.

i wonder how england will be doing.
didn't they get the maximum result during the qualifications?

Yes, but they have rarely lost any qualifying matches over the last 10 years but still looked a mess in the tournament itself.

The coach probably has the right 11 players on the pitch but not necessary in the right positions. We've never won their opening game at any Euros so let's see tomorrow night, Russia has supposed lost several of their strongest players to injury in the next few weeks.

Copa America Centenial, eurofags

Cool As Ice Cream 06-10-2016 07:11 AM

they're showing every game on belgian tv.
i can also watch whatever is shown on bbc, but i don't have itv.
i don't think i'll obsess too much over it, though. i don't need to see every game.

How come Maradona throws shade on Messi saying he isn't much of a leader? Is he jealous of the guy or something, or is he right?

I do like that new wonderkid they got now -- what's his name, lemme look -- oh yea, Marcus Rashford.

<3 Marcus Rashford.

I hope England does well. They probably won't, as usual.

France will probably win.

Probably just frustrated that Messi hasn't been able to win anything for Argentina. Maybe a little bit of a motivational kick.

MyOneAndOnly 06-10-2016 11:57 PM

fuck the EU

Copa America is happening right now!

A lot of Messi's countrymen complain that he isn't passionate about the national team and underperforms out of his Barcelona kit.

When you have a player like Tevez returning to Boca to close out his career and Agüero planning a similar move to Independiente, the bar is raised fairly high when it comes to loyalty and dedication in Argentine football.

Rashford would never have got within a mile of the squad were he not a Man United player. As soon as you score 5-6 goals for one of the "big clubs" the media lobby gets the player into the squad.

It sucks bad. Really bad soccer except for Argentina really. Terrible referees.

hnibos 06-11-2016 11:09 AM

Seriously, soccer on this side of the earth is so *bad*. USA is so terrible. No fluidity at all. Watching the MLS is like high school soccer.

He has said multiple times he would love to return to Newell's Old Boys to end his career. He went to Spain at a young age, could have easily played for Spain instead.

To be fair, there is a reason why he's with Manchester United and not Everton or West Brom or some shit.

hnibos 06-11-2016 11:16 AM

There is one other country here that has played with some semblance of quality as of late and that's Mexico. Hopefully it's Mexico-Argentina final. Haven't looked at the brackets to see if that's possible.

And no, not Brazil. Worst Brazilian team I have ever seen.

TuralyonW3 06-11-2016 03:31 PM

A fine Wales win sparked by a first class Bale goal

Interesting. Are you also saying he didn't merit consideration for the team? He looks legit to this laymen's eye.

hah. pretty much. It's why I like to watch basically any other country play soccer. I just assume they do it better.

USMNT has had its moments over the years though. I dunno bout Klinsmann however. I wanted to believe, but...

TuralyonW3 06-12-2016 10:51 PM

Yeah Brazil is shit huh

He's doing as well as he possibly could considering Clint fucking Dempsey is his best player. He's trying to get eligible American playing in Europe to join USMNT because you don't get better if you're not testing yourself. And he gets shit for it because it's unamerican or wahhhh what about MLS. American exceptionalism at its worst. The MLS is so terrible and playing in this league is not helping any of our better players (Michael Bradley, Jozy Altidore, Gyasi Zardes, Graham Zusi). Kaka is so over the hill and he's thriving here. That about sums up the state of MLS.

TuralyonW3 06-13-2016 08:42 AM
