Is he Fat Tony???!???! I had no idea.
|
Seems not right, somehow, like they should have given it to James Gandolfini or Marlon Brando or something
|
joe loves the character so much he forbids anyone else to play it and will show up to make grunt noises
|
Joe Montegna is more Lil' Tony IMO
|
hahaha are you kidding, ok let him have it. that's the kind of commitment you don't see so much, anymore
|
i listened to the commentary on the ep where bart has a job at the legitimate businessmen's club which might be the first appearance, groening was basically so high on mantegna and how pro he was that they agreed to let him be fat tony every time
it's fun listening to them gush over certain actors because of what pros they are. they adore george takai, i don't recall exactly who else they really liked atm but there were some others but none of them were big celebs. |
Man, that's awesome. I listened to a Howard Stern interview once with Conan O'Brien and they were talking about George Takei and what a stickler he is for pronunciation. He seems like he would be a riot, just from his It's OK to be Takei stuff, but I had no idea about Joe Montegna. He also stars in my younger boy's favourite film of all time, Baby's Day Out, so I get to watch him acting out having his crotch set on fire over and over again, and I kinda like any actor who doesn't consider acting in children's films or goofball comedies "beneath" them or whatever.
|
i seem to remember they liked sam neill a whole bunch
who's always funny to me because he's not a big star at all but he was the lead in one of the biggest movies ever |

Even as a huge fan of Glengarry Glen Ross, I would also struggle to apply the title of "strong director" to James Foley. I would suspect that the source material had almost everything to do with what made that one so good. |
I can now tie the Joe Mantegna talk in with the David Mamet and point out that his best work was clearly in the opening scenes of Edmond.
|
with coppola in the frist, i think he was established and pacino was young and not as ego mad but lets face it coppola's career takes a nose dive and godfather 3 is shit and pachino is feasting on scenery in it
by strong director i mean someone who can control him and tone him down a bit, so idk what foley's personality is like. i admit i assumed mamet directed it. but even michael mann let him do his whole random shouting big eyes thing with hilarious results lol i forgot the other guy was hank azaria |
You can see him run through "Big... no huge... no GREAT! GREAT ASS!"
|
oh and scarface what a awful pos movie that is

goddamn it i need to see heat again
|
It's just a shame that Heat effectively became the "Pacino being Pacino" archetype that seemed to crop up so often in later roles.
When it comes to his post-Heat performances, I think my favourite would have to be Chinese Coffee. |
do obscure indie musicians count as celebrities these days?
![]() Stina Tweeddale of Honeyblood ![]() Dum Dum Girls, all of them esp The bassist "Malia" who is on the left ![]() Laura-Mary Carter of Blood Red Shoes and of course, ![]() ![]() Ritzy Bryan of Joy Formidable i love that they all make the kind of fuzz toned "blissed out buzz saw" (as dee dee of the dum dum girls put it) guitar racket that i love the most of all things |
Ritzy and rhydian were apparently dating.
They would have had the most beautiful children. They still rock out so hard together. Love them. |
