Today a passenger sat in the front seat and literally ignored me the whole time. They took selfies 2/3 of the way, though.

I like the idea of you being in a line of work where there's not a huge chance of you being shot

*D rolls up in uber*
*SNBTHR is blasting*
*window comes down*
*looks over the top of sunglasses*

ANYONE ORDER A LIFT?

D. 08-13-2015 10:21 PM

Oh I'm still a security guard, this is just part time. Don't even know if it'll be profitable unless I do it long term. But I am saving up for a bulletproof vest!

Also this is exactly what I should do if I see my passenger is a metalhead.

How much would you average per month? What kind of mileage hit does your car take?

Eulogy 08-13-2015 10:42 PM

The woman who cut my hair today said she was in an uber last night that had put 61,000 miles on it in one year. O_O

I figure if I do it 8a to 2p (kid in school) on the two days a week id be active and I really hustle and figure out the best spots, I could pull in $150-200 a week.

Haven't figgered gas out yet but that'll be my biggest hurdle of course.

Trotskilicious 08-13-2015 10:44 PM

how does it feel to be undercutting yet another unionized blue collar profession so well-off young white professionals can save a few bucks?

Feels like America.

But i bet the bottom drops out sooner than later.

Bread Regal 08-13-2015 10:47 PM

yeah i mean.

uber is kind of evil.

Bread Regal 08-13-2015 10:48 PM

not that you are complicit in the evil part. you're just making a buck.

sppunk 08-13-2015 10:48 PM

I love Uber/Lyft/etc. If I'm ever in KC I hope I get you.

LaBelle 08-13-2015 10:49 PM

What's your hook to set your service apart from the competition?

D. 08-13-2015 10:50 PM

I did pick up a guy who reminded me of eulogy tho.

Young, white lawyer. Had just took the bar at Wash U in StL, was from DC, but was in kc for an interview.

He definitely talked over me, even in friendly chatter though.:(

I dunno how it is in the states but over here it was really a welcome change because the taxi industry has been corrupt and exploitative for a long time and not only did uber force them to lift their standards and practices but according to a lot of the drivers i've met who made the switch it actually works out better for them.

Shallowed 08-13-2015 10:51 PM

What is an uber driver?

They are definitely shady. Almost everything is done online, they only post "pop up" store locations/hours, a couple horror stories out there online...

over here the fares for uber are much lower than cab fare it just renders their occupation unviable

whatcolor has a different perspective would be interesting to hear his take

Personal vehicle as taxi.

Folx download the app; when they need a ride they can see all the drivers in the immediate area. They choo choo choose you, you pick em up and drop 'em off.

Their card is automatically charged. Uber takes 20%. No one ever tips because 1) no one carries cash 2) they might or probably do assume it is in cluded in the fare (it is not) 3) peeps are butts.

I don't care about the cost, I care about the service. The overwhelming majority of taxis absolutely suck and are a glorified mob.

Only place I don't use Uber is NYC, because there are better alternatives. Well and London but that's because weird UK laws so we use private car services.

D. 08-13-2015 11:04 PM

#1 reason I've heard people (most all are young people, uber is not popular amongst olds) use uber is the "language barrier" using cabs. #2 is that it is unclear which cabs are cash only and which take cards.

Trotskilicious 08-13-2015 11:04 PM

every uber driver was awful, they amateurs, they never know where they are going and they are akways fucking with their phone. ive used uber three times, each tine the driver didnt know where they were going (downtown addresses, the fucking airport) and did at least one thing that made me feel unsafe. one drove down tge center turn lane for nearly a mile before i had to notify him. he was trying to find "6th and red river" on his phone

sppunk 08-13-2015 11:05 PM

That's no different than taxis. Except they con each other for medallions.

The phones they give us are hot garbage. I generally know where I'm going but use gps if the address is off of the main roads (obviously).

Trotskilicious 08-13-2015 11:07 PM

also fuck off trying to talk to me, thank goodness my ex was there so i didnt have to speak at all

yeah, I definitely don't say much beyond hi and bye unless initiated. Half of my rides have sat in the back seat.

What part of "the cost means nothing" do you not understand?

I use car services that are more expensive than cabs in some cities. Cost is irrelevant, service, availability and convenience rule all. I don't care if a cocunut crab is the driver as long as I get to where I need to be safely and on time.
