Bans
Bans make life so boring. Outside of finding out about criminal behaviour and not wanting to associate with a poster because of that...I wish there were fewer bans.
I just got banned from a forum for being 'disrespectful' to another member. I think I've been spending too much time here because all I can do is roll my eyes. It was a mummy forum. So, basically an online coven. I didn't even call anyone a shit stain or anything! Just said they should make it clear in the thread title that the thread is for people who are easily butthurt and will be moderated by a certain user. I wasn't finished with the argument. It's not over until someone cries from humiliation IMO. Screw that coven for robbing me of my rightful smackdown with these vicious little yapper dog women. |

or something like that also, most of the interesting stuff is in a restricted section - access is only given once you have 200 posts and have been there 6 months |
So what was the argument about and what were the opinions
|
Internet porn - how porn had changed and how we would talk to our children about it. We initially disagreed over whether or not whether or not sexual experimentation is important (I don't think it is - I don't think it's bad either, but I don't think it's essential to a healthy sexual relationship). I think emotional vulnerability and connection are more important, for me, anyway...than whether or not we've had sex in that same position 1000 times before. I know that's not the same for everyone...but that's the point, people are all different. Making a blanket statement like sexual experimenting is important is unhelpful.
Then I said that we often discussed the media and its limitations and biases with our kids, and advertisers and their motivations, and I hoped we would scrutinise porn the same way, and mentioned the current global standard of beauty being fair, smooth skin, soft hair, small nose, big eyes and lips, small & slim...and how I wondered if that reflected the current power structure of the global human population and how white men have come to be the most powerful, so their sexual preferences become the dominant standard for beauty. Both because women want to be desired by the most powerful men, and because men want to be selected by women who are the object of desire of powerful men...because it transfers status onto them, to be selected in that way. And how I wondered if porn and standards of beauty might change if China or India became more powerful, economically and militarily. Then this other lady said, I don't think it's a white thing, I just think that whatever is 'hard to achieve' is most popular...so right now, she thought those traits were the hardest to replicate and were therefore most desirable. Then I pointed out that India and South America both have huge skin lightening industries and how that appears to be after the subjugation of darker skinned humans by white men. And she said, again, there were fewer white people in those areas, so that colour skin became desirable. And I said, well in that case, how do you explain nobody having a preference for redheads (I mean true redheads here, with freckles and bright red hair...the kind that are becoming extinct because nobody selects them) And then she said "I'd like to hear from other people now. If you have things you wish to discuss further about internet pornography, perhaps you can discuss them with your husband." Which is mostly because she no longer had the opportunity to prove how right she was, because she had come to realise that she was totally full of it. This lady studied psychology at uni but you know...isn't exactly academic. And then I went on a bit of a rant about how people who would only post once I stopped being a part of the discussion being lame cowards who didn't have the mental agility or strength of character to have their opinions scrutinised or challenged, and how she should start a new thread called "Internet pornography for the easily butthurt moderated by [poster]" And then I started the thread. It was deleted and I was sent a PM by a moderator that said. "Not OK Emma. Not OK at all." to which I replied "ok go on, hand down your butthurt judgments to all of us booooooorrrrrrrriiinnng" to which she replied "get a grip" to which I replied "get a life" MEANWHILE in another thread where I was busy having an ongoing flamewar with the resident "I read Dawkins two years ago and my confirmation bias has only allowed me to accept information pertaining to religion from sources that agree with me like Sam Harris" atheist, and after being challenged on how religion causes suffering to women who are forbidden from dancing I said "What does this information motivate you to do, in real life?" .... and then I went on to explain how I had attended training so that I could be a small group facilitator in a table top discussion where an asylum seeker shared their story, in the hopes of changing popular opinion concerning asylum seekers in Australia, and eventually having the Australian government change their policies regarding asylum seekers, so that more women from countries where they are forbidden to dance, are allowed to seek asylum in Australia. And then she didn't answer, so I re-asked the question, to which she said: "oh, I deliberately didn't answer that, because I don't want to get into a battle of one-upmanship about social justice, besides, it wouldn't be very Christian, would it?" to which I replied "I would have thought many others would be interested in whatever practical ideas you have, concerning how to help these women." and then somebody else said: "I am interested in how you can be so interested in helping asylum seekers but can be so attacking and rude to women on this forum who you have been posting with here, for years." At which point I said well if the women on this forum needed me to advocate for them and their children because their lives were in danger and they had no political freedoms, then I would do that...but if they were given asylum in Australia and then began posting in a passive aggressive way at an internet forum where I was active, I would probably be rude to them, too...there's a difference between disagreeing with someone online and ignoring their plight as a victim of oppression. I went to check on the progress this morning and found out I had been banned for a month for being disrespectful to another member. so basically it's a case of ![]() |
