Nah, the concept of a flat world on the backs of elephants is, literally, ancient.

His Discworld novels started as hilarious fantasy and became more satirical with every installment.

His non-Discworld books, i.e. "Good Omens" (which he wrote with Neil Gaiman) are excellent as well.





What a fucking loss.

What a way to go, though. True to his soul until the very end.

I've only read a few of his books. The last one was Nation, and it was really good. I'm fond of Reaper Man as well.

Re-read them all in order of publication. They're about eight bucks each for the Kindle.

:( Alzheimer is some scary shit. I wasn't aware of his books until Discworld came up in college. Once I started it was impossible to stop, I love these books. Besides Tolkien and Michael Ende it's the only fantasy I ever got into.

Same here, until I picked up the first novel in the A Song Of Ice And Fire series. Four pages in I was hooked. You should really give it a try, if you have nothing better to do. Even if you don't like / know the HBO show.

I don't know the series, but I'm always looking for new books since I spend half the day waiting and twiddling my thumbs.

oops, google tells me it's Games of Thrones. umpf, I'll take your word that the novels are better than the series.

I used to only read books I had physical copies of. Then I found Library Genesis and my life is chaos. I downloaded 392 books in a month...

I've never read Pratchett, but his passing is a big loss to a lot of my friends as well.

Can anyone recommend me his best work/series/teach me how to read it? I actually do have a physical copy of Good Omens, maybe I'll read that, but idk if it ties in with something else I should read first?

Nation isn't a Discworld book, so you can just go ahead and read it. I thought it was really good. It's funny, and perceptive, and has a big heart (but this is true of a lot of his books, except - I am told - the early ones, which are mostly just funny). I'm clearly one of the least knowledgeable people here, but reading the whole series in chronological order sounds a bit overwhelming to me.

they dont have all that much continuity so you can jump in anywhere that is he specifically wrote them with that in mind

it's pretty sad. I've never actually read a Discworld book, but he's one of the people you're always familiar with in the fantasy scene

my mom never read a book pf his either but she watched his doc abt alzheimers and was amazed by his unique world view and how kind and good hearted he was

im looking thru quotes and its funny that i forgot how much wisdom there is abt death. funny i forgot because one of his favorite characters was Death.

seems he found peace abt it long ago. still too young and a bitter end for someone bursting with imagination
