Social Media Articles

Just kind of make me give up on humanity

like today i was reading one related to getting a job in another place and this "Social Media Intern" was telling me that i should start 'developing your social network' before you move, often by looking up people that went to college with you on facebook and fucking LinkedIn (which i think is hands down one of the worst social media sites on the internet). I skimmed the article but it reads like most of this shit does, "friends" are commodities you acquire to help you "get ahead" and "climb the ladder" and fucking etc

in the glorious communist republic of trotskyland there will be no social media it will be OUTLAWED and instead, you will need to "network" with your friends at the Local Pub or the Taco Distribution Agency

toase 08-21-2014 01:04 AM

I'd be rioting for this

Trotskilicious 08-21-2014 01:07 AM

here it is

i hate every word in it

Trotskilicious 08-21-2014 01:07 AM

it’s essential to start building your new network before you move. Any introduction can be incredibly helpful; you can get advice on your sector’s local who’s-who, company connections, or just suggestions on the best bookstores in town.

Get to know your new city (and limit burnout) by quickly getting into some routine. Grab your laptop and do your cover letters at a coworking space or cafe on a regular schedule

Trotskilicious 08-21-2014 01:08 AM

YES GO HANG OUT IN A GODDAMN CAFE WITH YOUR FUCKING LAPTOP

butthurt 08-21-2014 01:08 AM

What other pearls of wisdom does this unpaid intern have for us?

Trotskilicious 08-21-2014 01:08 AM

By putting some work in early, you’ll be meeting new people and making the most of your new home as soon as the landing gears are down. Here are a few other resources to help you with networking and moving:

Trotskilicious 08-21-2014 01:10 AM

basically she's telling us the way to be successful in contemporary america is to work all the goddamn time, approach every social contact as some kind of stepping stone or contact for better jobs and job prospects (as opposed to smoking dope and playing street fighter) and she apparently doesn't see what's wrong with that because she was raised on ronald reagan and watered down ayn rand

i seriously have no hope for this country. i see or hear people quote goddamn Gandhi re: "be the change you want to see in the world" and i want to punch them in the throat

Trotskilicious 08-21-2014 01:11 AM

To stay on top of meetings and events, make a separate calendar (Or at least a color code) for your move-related activities. Whenever you schedule coffee or a Skype session with someone, add an event. If using Google Calendar or another service that allows, invite them to it, with a message to remind who you are and what you talked about.

Trotskilicious 08-21-2014 01:12 AM

SERIOUSLY DO PEOPLE FUCKING DO THIS, IS THAT WHAT THESE ASSHOLES ARE DOING AT STARBUCKS ON THEIR GODDAMN COMPUTERS

i mean i just want a fair living wage, you guys can work all the time to land the job of your dreams where you're working every minute of the day because you've been conditioned to it and you're the only kind of worker that people reward for anything in the current job economy BECAUSE THEY ARE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF YOUR MANIACAL WORKAHOLIC LIFESTYLE

Trotskilicious 08-21-2014 01:14 AM

i was talking to this guy at a bar the other night, he's a great guy seriously one of the best dudes but he's talking about how for his work he's going out and getting "face time" and "networking" and this that and the other thing (in austin this means getting drunk with professionals, near as I can figure). Also, with your free time you should be working at learning new software and job related activities and I'm just like

what the fuck. my parents never did this shit.

toase 08-21-2014 01:14 AM

That's ridiculous, I'm out on the streets

butthurt 08-21-2014 01:17 AM

"Aspiring Urbanist"

Trotskilicious 08-21-2014 01:18 AM

i just want to vomit until i drop dead

i'm pretty angry right now about my student loans

also i'd like to seek asylum in australia or britain or something because i hate this country and everything it stands for

Trotskilicious 08-21-2014 01:20 AM

and it stands for FUCKING LIES ABOUT FREEDOM WRITTEN BY SLAVE HOLDERS AND OBSCENELY RICH PEOPLE BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T WANT TO PAY TAXES TO THE CROWN WHO FUCKING ENABLED THEM TO COLONIZE AND GET RICH OFF OF THE EXTINCTION OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLE

Trotskilicious 08-21-2014 01:20 AM

i mean to be honest. that stupid dickhead racist rancher is a microcosm of the founders of america.

the government gave me this land and cattle
so i don't owe them SHIT

reprise85 08-21-2014 01:22 AM

yeah i dont get the use everyone as a tool to make yourself more money/get a better job/etc

i mean relationships shouldn't be based on that shit. if i had to look at every new person i met as a networking opportunity i would kill myself.

reprise85 08-21-2014 01:23 AM

if you have to send someone information on their google calender to remind them that you talked and what was so important about it IT WASNT IMPORTANT AND HE DOESNT CARE AND NEITHER DO YOU REALLY YOU JUST WANT TO MILK HIS COCK SO SOMEONE ELSE WILL MILK YOURS

Trotskilicious 08-21-2014 01:23 AM

unfortunately this kind of thing is being rewarded now. these are the new professionals of our generation, the ones who use people like commodities and are obsessive workaholics. ultimately they will make a modest salary that is still well below the adjusted-for-inflation average of american workers.

the rest of us get called lazy and left by the roadside with enormous student debt and a big middle finger from the general public

leastways that's how i feel

reprise85 08-21-2014 01:24 AM

am i doing it right

fuck that shit completely. i might become a workaholic at some level, but it wont be to advance my career or whatever bullshit. it would be to help others. and i feel like shit if i use someone as a commodity. fuck. that.

she seems like that kind of goddamn asshole who thinks it's appropriate to send reminder emails and call people to remind them about things

i say she because the tiny photo is very small and it could just be a tiny ginger man but andy mcdowell is def a woman and maybe her parents REALLY LIKED groundhog day

Trotskilicious 08-21-2014 01:27 AM

here's something to enrage you, from those GODDAMN PINKOS over at Mother Jones:

http://www.motherjones.com/politics/...-harder-charts

Trotskilicious 08-21-2014 01:28 AM

Trotskilicious 08-21-2014 01:28 AM

here's the chart that makes me want to immigrate

Trotskilicious 08-21-2014 01:29 AM

Increase in real value of the minimum wage since 1990: 21%

Increase in cost of living since 1990: 67%

One year's earnings at the minimum wage: $15,080

Income required for a single worker to have real economic security: $30,000

Trotskilicious 08-21-2014 01:29 AM

i dunno if 30,000 would do it for me, i'm still making well below that with ACS screwing me out of 2.5 hours a week.

Trotskilicious 08-21-2014 01:30 AM

Shallowed 08-21-2014 01:32 AM

So this is what people must mean by a job when they tell me to stop being such a bum, get off the dole and get a job. It sounds euphoric.

reprise85 08-21-2014 01:32 AM

i spend like 4-5k a year just on therapy/psychiatry/meds/etc, so that cuts a big part out of my income. shit thats a lot of fucking money. but without therapy i'd be insane and probably dead

so i think i made like 22k? last year but really after all that it's 17-18k. def dont have economic security.

really i made much less than that but im on a govt disability to work program so thats what i made with that program plus working 30ish hours a week and going to school

Trotskilicious 08-21-2014 01:34 AM

this is one of the best goddamn articles i've read in years

http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/20...moaning-moguls

essentially the thesis is that the rich hate the poor now and try to deny them social services and destroy unions and cut their wages et al because communism is dead and they do not fear organized proletarian outrage

so they suck all the profit out of the economy, give us nothing in return and tell us that we should have worked harder

they give loans out to people who can't pay them, sell a bunch of houses and when that bubble pops they get bailed out by the government, face no real pentalty, give themselves raises and then in a few years make more money then they ever did

and probably about 50% of the public thinks this is fair

reprise85 08-21-2014 01:37 AM

im going to have to start taking out loans in the next year or two. really gotta start going for those scholarships hardcore.

Shallowed 08-21-2014 01:37 AM

This is 4u Troots

butthurt 08-21-2014 01:41 AM

That's not the attitude an aspiring urbanist should have!
