made french onion soup tonight

i went around town and spent some of my tax return on a dutch oven and a set of soup crocks. then we spent an afternoon buying all the ingredients.

it took about an hour and a half and it was probably the most complex recipe i've done, but it turned out to be so delicious. i feel like a king.

danzig wants some

Onion soup doesn't have to be complex, what made this recipe so complex?

Shallowed 03-23-2014 11:09 PM

This comes from someone who has never successfully cooked rice unsupervised

Bread Regal 03-23-2014 11:09 PM

i mean complex compared to what i normally can cook. not only used sweet onions but also a leek and some shallots. i thought that really broadened the flavor.

i made gumbo tonight for the first time

Bread Regal 03-23-2014 11:11 PM

with roux and everything?

TuralyonW3 03-23-2014 11:20 PM

read a french onion soup recipe and come back

i mean i assume banzah you didn't do the whole beef broth thing but either way it's fairly laborious

used some vegetable bullion cubes and margarine instead of butter.

sitting here just dipping pieces of a baguette into it.

slunken 03-24-2014 12:13 AM

i just checked and the double down was debuted in april of 2010 so its been almost 4 years since my last visit.

I had one and that was P-L-E-N-T-Y

I made sweet and sour pork with broccoli and brown rice.

i baked a pork chop w/o seasoning etc, steamed a ton of broccoli in the microwave. mixed with already cooked brown rice from the fridge and some kikkoman sweet and sour sauce. cooked in microwave for 2 more minutes. added sesame seeds to mixture. mixed again.

chinese food takeout go fuck yourself!

this is really one of my favorite things to cook. usually make it with chicken but had some pork thawed.

total cost is approx $3 and it's enough for two people

this is as complicated as i go
