yup
not as much as my phone, though, which now drops internet when i'm in my house and it'll do it for like 5 mins at a time. it started right when we got fiber, though my friend told me the two have nothing to do with each other w/r/t interference. |
Thinking about getting a refurbished iPad 2. Mostly for reading e-books (atm) and I don't think I'll need a cellular connection for it. I can get one at about the same price through my cell provider but that's with a 2 year plan but I'm curious as to how much more it would be tacked onto my monthly bill.
|
Ever since my internet company was taken over by Time Warner I have to reset my router at least twice a day it's so fucking annoying.

i hate to say it but you're below minimum specs for mainstream websites dogg |

i wonder how many people are employed at time warner just to handle the volume of "unplug it then plug it back in" tech support calls the other option is AT&T who have something akin to the Labyrinth of legend for a "customer support" hotline complete with an IT minotaur that says there's nothing wrong with your connection and you have to buy a new 100 dollar router even though you haven't finished paying for the one they made you buy in the first place |
Whenever the internet goes completely down (twice so far in a year versus zero times in five years under the old company) I do a live chat on my phone and the person is always like "yep its down can't tell you when it will be up"
thanks? |
yeah don't be too hard on them, the corporate evil that holds their fate in their talons is to blame
|
i'm really enjoying the IT Minotaur concept at this point if i may be so vain

after several calls i was sent something called an airave (something like an in-home miniature cell tower) which did not work. one day i refused to get off the phone with a woman until they comped my monthly bill for lack of service. took forever and i could tell she was getting mad at me (which was very satisfying), but i got my money back. |
i'm glad it was really satisfying to make a CS person mad at you, i mean you are profoundly irritating i guess you should take "pride" in abusing the proletarian for your own ends instead of you know acting like an adult and going "May I speak with your supervisor?"
|
i did. the supervisor was the person i would not let off the phone. i even asked to speak with her supervisor. she kept saying things like 'i understand your concern ma'am, but at the moment there is nothing we can do while service is down'. after hearing that from no less than 5 people (over a period of a week +) who really just want to get to the next call, i was ticked and it was nice to elicit some emotion (any would have done) from anyone.
and evidently there was something that could be done because i was refunded 65 smackers that day. at one point i went to a physical store and the woman there was very nice and i believed her when she said she did not have the power to change my bill. however, she was the one who suggested i called customer service and really push them. it must have been because when i introduced myself i shook her hand. nah. i don't know, but her advice worked. |
at least i was reasonable.

refusing to get off the phone is childish, which is par for your shitty little putt-putt of life
and i'm not sure what you were trying to "prove" by quoting me, impervious to irony as ever, i work in the industry and i have to tolerate people like that and they always get what they want and it's always irritating. people like you being obstinate babies instead of saying the magic S word also tend to just make things awkward and unpleasant. |
YOU'RE NOT MY SUPERVISOR!!!!!!!!!!
|
listen, i pay for service. i don't have my service for over a month... i want my money back. and i was sick of being told i would get a callback that day only to have to call back myself a couple days later and start all over again.
i asked for a supervisor every time i was told the person could not do anything... well, may i speak with someone who can? don't play with my money (because i don't have much). i had no problem when i was told service would be out a few days. then a few days later they didn't know when it would be back. after that they were only trying to stave off doing anything about it besides telling me to wait. i've worked in call centers. i know people can be unreasonable, but sometimes it's the big business screwing the customer. |
Seriously though it sucks you have to be a giant baby and fight to get what's rightfully comig to you

but i wasn't there i just don't like hearing people boasting about being ugly to customer service |
though i've been ugly to particularly frustrating assclowns and student loan vultures

Personally I've probably only called a customer service hotline a few times in my life but it seriously does seem like you have to throw a fit and browbeat them over the phone to get any sort of compensation.
My experiences have been with cell companies iirc. It's the idea that it seems like they hide information from you and that seems sneaky/deceitful. I remember signing up for a cell company one time because I had some friends and family that were paying a certain amount and I thought that sounded great. I went to sign up and my bill was going to be twice the amount of what I thought. After an hour+ of whining and complaining they finally conceded. They seem to treat it like: well if they don't know any better we're going to get as much money out of them as possible. Or another point: I signed up for a 7 day trial of a credit score company and when I went to cancel they were like "we'll give it to you for half price" and i'm thinking damn what if I thought the original price was legit i would have paid it but here you quickly offer it to me for half of that what the fuck. It juts smells dishonest and breeds mistrust. |
Why can't they just be honest and upfront about things?
|
I can't imagine walking into a clothing store and complaining about the price of a pair of boots and speaking to the manager to get them for half off.
Just sell the shit for one price and no one has to throw a fit. |

i have used virgin mobile since the aughties, it's fantastic, it's always the same rate unlimited minutes and data for less than $40 a month. it's not the fastest or best service but i am of the "it's going to space" philosophy of smart phones. i've never needed to call customer support, until i switched phones and they were great microsoft xbox tech support is also great, they have a method where they have someone soothing figure out what you want and then they send you to a specialist stuff like cell phone companies, the thing is with the employees there is that it's not like you're the first or the last just another of many and it's dehumanizing already to be the person who's supposed to hold the line with customers that give the company money over fine print rules and regulations and bait-and-switch tactics a few "I really don't blame you personally for this" thrown in every now and again helps a bit. |
ugh i'm just not looking forward to tablet shopping at my cell provider's store to discuss data plans and all that shit. i'm going to need them to understand that i don't need or necessarily want an additional data plan on a tablet but i'll take one if its only going to be 5-10 extra bucks a month.
like i mentioned earlier i can get a refurbished wi-fi only model for the same price the cell company is offering with an additional 2-year activation plan. |
i understand too that those employees are used to dealing with clueless morons on a regular basis

i moved a year ago and AT&T still won't mail me a bill or explain how to access my U-verse account.. it just takes me to my old apartment's account. i called them one last time and they guy literally said "your name is craig? like from Friday?? LOL.. ok man don't worry i'll take care of your problem" of course he gave me the wrong password and they still wont mail me my bill. i just get late notices which is kind of hilarious and then i go to the grocery store to pay it off
every other time they try and give me all these "deals".. which is ok but they ply me with offer after offer after offer. its like k bro.. i'm just on my lunch break so -- NO WAIT DON'T U WANT A FREE XBOX ONE first world problems and all. but fuck AT&T. |
My mom works from home doing Sprint call center stuff. It's amazing that people rack up thousands of dollars over a couple of months, and only pony up the bare minimum when they finally get shut off.
If they are super rude or insulting, my mom just transfers them to the Spanish department. |

after doing some research (god cell phone plans are confusing) i doubt i'll be able to get the bargain price on a new tablet because that will require a brand new activation plan - not just adding a device to my pre-existing plan (which would only be an extra 10 a month).
i really don't think i'll use internal data for a tablet. but i learned i can shave $20 off my bill by dumping my data usage in half (wi-fi is everywhere) and getting rid of insurance. not sure why i'm paying $10/month for that to begin with i probably thought it was a good idea at the time. |

one of my co-workers is a refugee from AT&T, she tells me that you had sales quotas and such to hit even though you're taking inbound support calls. she told me to try and help customers she'd get lost in the AT&T Automated Menu Labyrinth. She told me that my idea of the IT Minotaur was hilarious because that's how it was, she'd hang on to the line to see what IT said and 95% of the time they weren't really going to do much of anything for anyone. AT&T is made out of pure evil. First world whining or not, it's a very awful company with the worst customer service experience i have ever encountered. |
reading customer service forums is wildly hilarious though
AGE 65 AND UP I JUST GOT A NEW IPAD AIR AND DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT salesmanship |
knowing my luck though i'll dump my insurance and break my phone the next day though
|
scratch that i think i can shave $30 off my bill

a few months ago I canceled my ATT Uverse account and my ATT Wireless plan. I was paying ATT more per month than I was paying toward my car payment just so I could have 500 useless cable channels and two stupic iPhones.
I got a $40 per month Comcast high speed internet-basic cable-HBO plan and I switched my wireless plan to Republic Wireless, which is $25 per month unlimited talk, text and data with no contract and a Moto X phone. Plus my new phone can make calls and use data and text via wifi (no special app or skype or whatever needed). I figure I'm saving about 300 per month |
