In many many parts of the works you can't flush toilet paper. The difference is Rusdia built a new, modern facility that could have adequate piping to alow flushing TP yet failed.

The Olympics are the most corrupt event in the works, giving it to Putin and putying it in a. SUMMER RESORT within physical view of rerrorist-run regions was a colossal mistake. The IOC, much like FIFA, is astonishing in its ability to fuck up.

Trotskilicious 02-06-2014 01:29 PM

i dunno if they're the most corrupt lets talk about

FIFA: world cup in fucking qatar

FIBA (that's for barshketberl): You can pay to get a "wild card" for the baskeball world cup.

So the angry birds guy paid for them to get in over Russia, China, Germany, Italy, and Canada

The IOC might actually be scummier than our congress.

and yeah, this level of corruption is what the dumbass Liberal-communist in America have been unwittlingly pushing for and it's what their getting with Obama. Funny that they believed his b.s. about how he would change it all. lol.

I put IOC ahead simply because the event is "bigger" - they are both fucked.

And apparently downhill slope had been built incorrectly and they shut the event down today. Oops!

russia's economy being powerful, or its government being a global power broker is not really equatable to the overall health of the state IMO, which is fairly poor.

Trotskilicious 02-06-2014 05:17 PM

nah you're right per capita GDP is very low overall but it's an enormous state and regional gdps like in european russia probably compare favorably to western countries

there's a lot of semi-autonomous developing territories within russia, out in siberia, in the caucuses...these are places where they are incredibly poor

but it's not a "developing" country, that usually means countries that used to be colonial holdings that are now joining the economic elite; India, indonesia, malaysia, etc.

redbreegull 02-06-2014 05:30 PM

fair enough. When I look at India, it faces a lot of the same broad issues that Russia does... rampant corruption, factionalism, competing interests between different regions in a vast country where many citizens have nothing in common, etc., etc., but I would guess in a few decades India will be better off because that burgeoning economy is backed by some guarantee of democracy, human rights, and slowly improving conditions for most. Russia is more similar to China in that you have this massive economic power bubbling to the surface, but what it's standing on is basically an autocratic regime, and as strong as Putin looks now, that system just does not lend itself towards long-term stability. The very serious social issues Russia is plagued with will come to the surface and wreak havoc eventually.

at some point we need to recognize that fascism is alive and well and Russia and China are at the forefront

Trotskilicious 02-06-2014 07:30 PM

none of this shit about "communist" china already jesus

redbreegull 02-06-2014 09:00 PM

Personally I think fascism is something pretty specific, and we only really have 1 or 2 (depending on how you cut it) actual examples of this form of government in history. But China and Russia are authoritarian states by a lot of measures for sure. And yes, at this point China has literally nothing to do with communism. I think these two countries are the biggest threats to a coming age in which we are largely going to see an end to major interstate wars. Democratic countries don't go to war with each other, and it looks like Kant may have been right hundreds of years ago when he said eventually most of the world will have self-government and these governments will not go to war. All our conflict will be intra-state and factional in nature, but China and Russia are kind of the exception because they are playing a different game.

redbreegull 02-06-2014 09:04 PM

Putin is like a scrappy kid from the wrong side of the tracks who is putting together a rag tag baseball team of freaks and rejects to play an ultimate showdown against the varsity white boys from the rich side of town

Eulogy 02-06-2014 09:14 PM

my cable package doesn't really come with much cable so i have this on right now

might switch to netflix soon. i will make a point to watch hockey. and i'd actually enjoy luge/skeleton/bobsled. beyond that this shit is all pretty boring, isn't it?

duovamp 02-06-2014 10:25 PM

Figure skating is alright, downhill is pretty cool, speed skating is neat, and I really like the idea of the biathlon but I'd never actually watch it unless it happens to be on TV some Saturday afternoon.

Eulogy 02-06-2014 10:47 PM

oh yeah short track speed skating is badass

killtrocity 02-06-2014 11:30 PM

Bob Costas is talking about Pussy Riot on Olympic prelim coverage. Buying this antenna was the best 10$ spent since last Saturday, at least

the new wars will be waged by contractors between coporations

Trotskilicious 02-07-2014 02:33 AM

tbh i don't understand fascism that well, there is an aversion to that to an even more extreme degree than communism on college campuses. i think there are non-conformists at every college campus that are communists, but there's nobody espousing fascism. most people reject communism and socialism directy out of hand but as i feel, it contains too much truth to be driven away

anyway, i consider china and russia to fascistic because they're both about using capitalist means to achieve nationalist ends. there's another country that does this, but their market and society are much more liberal...

Trotskilicious 02-07-2014 02:36 AM

perhaps china is the first emerging corporate state, where the entire country is functioning like one monstrous corporation...

i really feel as if putin is following that lead. they are so very similar in that regard.

having the olympic games in these places is a way to shift the median attitude.

Trotskilicious 02-07-2014 02:38 AM

and can i mention these before and after shots of sochi that you found on some gawker feedsite are not even close to representative of a pretty popular black sea resort town. a trip to wikipedia will show you that.

why the winter games are at a summer holiday resort, well we are slated to have a world cup, in july, in fucking qatar so i mean

Yes, Bob has some sort of infection which has his left eye completely red and almost completely closed, making it impossible to put a contact lens in it. It just came on within the last 24 hours, the NBC doctors in Sochi are treating it, and they think it should resolve itself by the weekend. Until then, he has no choice but to go with the glasses on air.

sppunk 02-07-2014 01:30 PM

A hijacked plane was just forced to land in Turkey, hijacker said he had a bomb and was demanding to go to Sochi.

Also during the opening ceremonies one of the Olympic Rings didn't open. I wonder how many die for that failure.

Order 66 02-07-2014 01:42 PM

they deserve to die tbh

Developing country problems.

Quote:

A lighting effect appeared to malfunction at the start of the Olympics' Opening Ceremonies today, ending a dramatic set piece with a dud.

Floating above the heads of spectators at the Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi, Russia, five electric snowflakes appeared to bloom into the games' iconic rings, until one didn't.

The flake in the upper right corner failed to open, leaving the symbol looking incomplete.

NY Times – A Triumph For Putin, If Not For the Rest Of a Sagging Russia

Quote:

The Games are a crowning moment for Mr. Putin, a chance to demonstrate anew his mastery of the global levers of power, but perhaps not for the country he governs. With Russia’s natural-resource dependent economy slowing as commodities prices fall, and with foreign investments drying up, the Kremlin has already signaled that it would have to cut spending...

The stalling of the economy, despite the stimulus of Olympic spending, has raised worries about popular unrest directed at the Kremlin and a tightening of political freedoms in response once the Games are over.

Trotskilicious 02-07-2014 05:15 PM

well that's a thing innit

Lady Who Just Lit Olympic Flame Tweeted A Racist Picture Of The Obamas

Rodnina insisted that there was nothing wrong with the photograph, and said she had been sent it by friends in America. "Freedom of speech is freedom of speech, and you should answer for your own hang-ups," she wrote.
