Dozens of Boys' Bodies Discovered Buried at Florida School of Horrors
|
Reminds me of Pennhurst. I've had some friends who have snuck in the place and explored. Supposed to be creepy as all fuck. Hidden tunnels underneath with some of mental patients who were released when it was closed still living there. Graveyard of kids too.
Heavily guarded though, most people who sneak in there get caught. I'd still like to do it sometime. Been meaning too for a decade now. http://weirdnj.com/wp-content/upload...-Page-1972.jpg http://media.npr.org/assets/img/2010...5e9-s6-c30.jpg http://www.marcreed.com/Uploads/Marc.../1_img_383.jpg http://b.vimeocdn.com/ts/215/341/215341581_640.jpg http://www.chasingcarolina.com/wp-co...hurst057cc.jpg |
The school was established in Marianna, a small Panhandle town, with a pretty dark past. It was the site of an insignificant Civil War battle, as well as the final resting place of former slave-owning, Governor John Milton (who committed suicide after the War). It's also the site of the horrific torture and lynching of Claude Neal, an African-American accused of rape and murder. Today, only 9,000 people live in Marianna, who's motto is "City of Southern Charm

Some Jackson County residents have fought the effort at every turn. When FDLE released its report in 2009, which concluded there were 31 graves, local historian and blogger Cocks touted his own corresponding research and said the media should apologize. "They printed wild accusations of murders and secret graves with no supporting evidence," he said, according to a Jackson County Times article headline "FDLE Confirms: No 'Mystery Graves' at Dozier." "Now they should make up for it."
Cocks has since revised his estimate to 55. "As far as Marianna and Jackson County are concerned, our community has been vindicated," he wrote Tuesday in a blog post headlined "USF confirms: No Mass Grave at Dozier School." "The media will never say that and USF will never say that, but we know it and we can hold our heads a bit higher today," said Cocks, before he was murdered by a bunch of pigs. |

CITY OF SOUTHERN CHARM
|
I've been to Marianna. It's right next to Chatahootchie, where Florida State Hospital is (for criminally insane). Chatahootchie is eastern time and Marianna is central.
My sister interned and then worked at the hospital. Basically the only things around there are the hospital and a prison, now that the school is gone. Everyone works at one or the other. |
That 's false. Florida Caverns state park is in marianna. I went there and can confidently say there isn't much else.

i could go for some boys right now

so were these secret graves?
because i mean other than that this is what you do to dead people. |

but it was open until 2011. and most institutions label their graves.
|
In a potters field at the turn of the century? No they don't.
Were these new or old graves. |
Potters field is lucky to get individual graves and not a collective hole for the dead

They expect to find many more bodies. Certainly some are newer, most will be older. Once they figure out causes of death we can know and not have to speculate. The majority of these have to be from murder and not natural. And just the fact that there are already more bodies discovered than those that were reported dead shows there were unreported "deaths"/murders |

I feel kind of bad that I had zero knowledge of this place until this thread.
This https://www.rjionline.org/sites/defa...t_marianna.pdf was a bad thing to read before going to bed. |

And, thinking of a horrible operation like that, I'm sure that deaths were not terribly uncommon. In the case of a state institution having no one to claim the body (children were often sent here because their parents didn't want them - as well as orphans) where did they bury them? It wouldn't be uncommon for a giant institution like this being around for over a 100 years to have a graveyard. And it also wouldn't have been terribly uncommon for a new addition to be built on top of an old unused graveyard. Music Hall in cincy is built on a potter's field of an old institution. It's just part of the legend, not an atrocity. I"m not trying to downplay the horrendous-ness of the scene at all, however, nothing I read specified how old these graves were. This isn't even a question of murder. |

yeah that's the place we're talking about here it's not some kind of understandable thing, it's a monstrous crime against humanity
|
i guess i just assume all places like this have unmarked graves somewhere on the grounds
