after you get punched in the chest how long until it stops being sore

margin

redbreegull 01-30-2014 12:04 AM

so I got this crazy soreness directly in my right pectoral... sore as in far, far beyond over exercising soreness, or slept a weird way soreness. I couldn't figure out what the hell I could have done, and then I remembered I had been punched in the chest on Saturday. Now I was drunk at the time, but I literally did not feel anything until yesterday, Tuesday, when it started to feel a bit tender. Today it's so bad it's difficult to turn the steering wheel and stand up straight. It didn't feel like I got hit too hard when it happened and I'm not sure why it would take three days for any pain to manifest itself... how long should I wait before I start worrying about fractured ribs or something?

redbreegull 01-30-2014 12:11 AM

c'mon guys punched in the chest advice let's go

redbreegull 01-30-2014 12:12 AM

no visible external bruise or mark of any kind. pain is not in chest cavity at all, just feels like extreme muscular tenderness. I'm thinking maybe a bruised bone. Is that a thing?

Future Boy 01-30-2014 12:12 AM

avoid it

redbreegull 01-30-2014 12:17 AM

I'm not even 100% sure it is from getting hit, but I can't remember exactly where I got hit and I can't think of anything else that could have happened to me

reprise85 01-30-2014 12:18 AM

bone bruises are a thing and can be pretty painful. when i broke my foot i also bruised other parts of the bone and it was really sore for a long time.

redbreegull 01-30-2014 12:25 AM

yeah. if I actually fractured a rib I probably would have felt that right away and not three days later, yeah?

Never get involved with a Puerto Rican. She will punch out your heart.

Bounced a bench press bar off my chest over two years ago, hurt like crazy for about 11 months, hurt mildly for about a year and a half, hurts every now and again currently. Still have to take a NSAID about once a week for it.

The cartilage in your chest can easily be damaged and can take for fucking ever to repair. I haven't been able to sleep on my left side since.

This is my life now.

did you see a doctor? from what I've read online it sounds like you suffered something more serious than just bruising of your ribs and cartilage. Rib bruising supposedly should heal in less than 2 months.

I think I will go to the doc on monday if it hasn't improved by then

It could be http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Costochondritis

but yeah, you should see the dr

Starla 01-31-2014 03:20 AM

I had costo once, years ago. It hurts really bad. At first I thought it was my heart... I couldn't move without my chest hurting. It even hurt to take a deep breath. It's kinda scary. They put me on celebrex for a month. The thing is, I didn't do anything to get this... they said it was stress and tension.
