I think his accomplishments have been a bit over stated. One of my buddies lived in South Africa for a bit and he says it's incredibly racially divided there and the blacks are like slaves. Then the South Africans that owned the farm he was working on came over and I met them and you could just tell from them too and how they acted in regards to black people.

Mandela was a self-proclaimed socialist and admirer of many communist leaders, though he himself did not feel he walked lock-step with the Marxists. He described Che Guevara as the most complete human being in the 20th century. He was at any rate, outspokenly anti-capitalist and against the power of big money. And although his legacy is one of nonviolence, he believed violence may be necessary to bring about change in South Africa, at least in his youth.

Capitalism has developed in such a way in this country due to the corporations, banks and government that people find themselves working just so that they can afford to keep working. With hard push to get people in debt and the widening gaps in wealth people are not free to do as they please. They are trapped in jobs they do not want confined to their area and country unable to move or go some place else due to the systems in place to keep that person where they are working the jobs they are working just so that they can maintain a level income that is just enough to keep on being able to work their jobs that have them in the slavery in the first place. All of the money works it's way back to the source while it funnels it out even more sparingly to strengthen the slave owners grip on the slaves. Capitalism has led society in this country into a new age of slavery although it's invisible even though it is happening right in front of our eyes.
