I was very firmly of this belief but there are recent studies of mitochondrial DNA that have traced the majority of Ashkenazi Jews back to a single group that was expelled from the Israel area when the Romans tore that shit up. Obviously very intermingled with Europeans at this point, but there is scientific evidence for a common ancestry, which is basically what we see as race anyway
