Spotify is not available where I live, but I doubt it has a decent equalizer (plus all the audio plugins to enhance the quality of the music, like compwide).

I think going opensource is better than maintaing winamp (some people say Microsoft is interested). The community is already there, it would be just lame to shut that down...

I never really got used to foobar, so winamp is still the best player for me.

if winamp was just sold i'd assume it isn't going anywhere

winamp tries to push stuff, it's very annoying. at least, that's what i remember from years ago.
foobar is a lot nicer.

I guess you are referring to their failed 'modern' design (blame AOL), I never liked either, and kept using the classic one.
But the recent 'bento' is very good.

music sounds the same whatever i listen to it with. except itunes. i fucking hate itunes.

i don't have money to subscribe to all these cloud spotify rdio whatever services so fuck all that noise. whatever fucking places the files and whatever device it's played through that makes it sound decent gets my vote.

isnt winamp owned by aol? is aol a thing? just keep running winamp if you want. i used to use it all the time and liked all the different skins you could get to make it look like you had a ghetto blaster or some sort of futuristic thingie. now that i am free of itunes maybe i will listen to shit with winamp again or foobar. i really don't give a shit.

i play most of my music through youtube anyway. because it's easy to find what i want.

aol still makes millions on dial up subscriptions. there are people out there who still have to listen to that screeching modem sound so they can get on the internet.

Well, if they opensource it, we might get some decent forks.
Firefox only exists because netscape went opensource, and in a way, Chrome is, somehow, derived from firefox, so that was a good thing, I guess...

I think the same can happen to Winamp, so why not? AOL is not going to make any money from it, so push them to get the source code.

you said nothing about equalization or equalizers and they are not exclusive to winamp. it's important if the music sounds shitty on a system or is mastered weird or you're in a car. sure. yeah. it's so fucking important to me.

dude spotify is free you just have to hear commercials for drake or katy perry every now and again

at least those commercials keep you up to date

free on desktop.. yeah. its the mobile app that i mean. the accessibility part. i'd rather just copy it to my phone than pay to have to steam shit. i just haven't bothered to install the desktop client and YOUTUBE w/ lastfm plugin 4LYFE

lastfm has spotify capability, that's pretty much all i use now. i'm sure if i had time to listen to rock music at work i'd be more particular but i hate my job and want to commit suicide in my cubicle just to spite everyone for hiring me

yeah there's a plugin. youscrobbler. it's kind of buggy. but it keeps my last.fm scene points accurate.

I can think of no other aesthete I'd rather have supervising all of my operations
