You could also put this all on the coach for putting Incognito in their leadership council to begin with.

Some teams still have cultures where the vets help out the rookies and pick up at the tab instead of extorting them for it. A good coach might even demand a no hazing policy because he expects them to be professional but mainly because he needs the rookies to make them a better team and he doesn't want them dealing with college-like bullshit.

That's how Bill Walsh did it and the large coaching tree under his name.

ajax does the same for the same reason

it's still unsettling to see a bunch of dutch people wearing hasidic hats with the little beardy things on waving israeli flags

Trotskilicious 11-07-2013 01:16 AM

can i point out also in the nba's favor that the gil arenas thing was a while ago, the kobe rape trial was worse but still a while ago i mean lately in the nba the dudes with the bad behavior headlines are

michael beasley is stoned
that forward with the anxiety disorder

Trotskilicious 11-07-2013 01:17 AM

Hey speaking of macho culture have you seen this commercial for the NFL's new partner's flagship title? Runs during football games.

Just in case the interplay between macho culture and militarism wasn't overt enough

Trotskilicious 11-07-2013 01:41 AM

nfl commericals are abhorrent, i was trying to find some really repulsive sexist ones or the Mightiest Man on Earth stuff because they have the tv box tivo whatever the fuck

Trotskilicious 11-07-2013 01:42 AM

Breaking: Sports is a Reflection of Culture

hnibos 11-07-2013 11:17 AM

Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland suggested offensive tackle Jonathan Martin physically confront guard Richie Incognito -- even saying he should "punch" him -- as a means of dealing with how he was being treated, Pro Football Talk reported Wednesday night.

duovamp 11-07-2013 11:33 AM

Christ. And like everyone else said, that's the whole systemic and personal issue. Incognito clearly wouldn't respond to things like reasons or empathy, so violence is the only consequence that would make it through his head. And then that's using the master's tools etc... I wish Martin shot him, but that's just perpetuating the problem, and Incognito will only be further reinforced by his family, peers, society... It's shit. It's all shit.

I don't know the boards grantland policy but I thought this was good

http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/...llying-scandal

I mean a fairly big outlet handling the story like this is good because most prominent sports writers seem to have the same mentality as players which is odd since they're mostly pencil neck geeks

duovamp 11-07-2013 02:29 PM

It was mentioned during some of the games last Sunday, that specifically he wasn't playing because he had an "emotional breakdown," that he was being bullied and there was an incident in the cafeteria where he was invited to sit with some guys, then as soon as he sat down they all got up to leave. So to me, that sounded horrible and I felt really bad for the guy. Little did I realize how many viewers would think he's just a big fucking pussy.

grantland's actually pretty good i've found, but i'm fairly certain bill simmons would probably take the counterpoint which is ironic because i'm pretty sure simmons would be reduced to tears after 30 minutes in an nfl training camp

that's a report from incognitos college bro, someone who hasn't played for the dolphins in over a year and a half

the justification is that martin is "shy" and would avoid eye contact. some guys put up these walls because they don't like you and think you're oafish pigs, methinks. perhaps he got to the NFL and found that he didn't like the culture or the people and was annoyed that it was some kind of tradition that he has to pay for your fucking food, you bully. perhaps he was longing to have a mature conversation with one of his team mates about herod or the works of virgil and all he could find is bros talking about bitches they banged, playing madden, and muscles.

these guys never have to grow up do they

That voicemail he sent came from a place of humor, but where he really screwed up was using the N-word. That, I cannot condone, and it’s probably the biggest reason he’s not with the team right now. Odd thing is, I’ve heard Incognito call Martin the same thing to his face in meetings and all Martin did was laugh. Many more worse things were said about others in the room from all different parties. It’s an Animal House. Now Incognito’s being slandered as a racist and a bigot, and unfortunately that’s never going to be wiped clean because of all the wrong he’s done people in his past. But if you really know who Richie is, he’s a really good, kind man and far from a racist.
CALLING SOMEBODY A "HALF NIGGER PIECE OF SHIT" IS LIKE THE LITERAL DEFINITION OF A RACIST YOU CAN'T EVEN HAVE THAT THOUGHT IN YOUR HEAD AND NOT BE A RACIST HOLY GOD DAMNED HELL

Trotskilicious 11-07-2013 03:27 PM

or martin's a standoffish dick whatever

MusicMan4 11-07-2013 03:28 PM

These fucking degenerates with their "code" and what happens in the locker room stays in the locker room
Just kill them
Kill all the jocks

Trotskilicious 11-07-2013 03:28 PM

yeah i believe that the unanimous dirtiest player in the nfl with a history of disciplinary problems is a good, kind man

The Omega Concern 11-09-2013 05:01 PM

this is a now a Bill Walsh thread.

this story's been getting alotta play here cuz Martin's from Stanford. Walsh and Harbaugh coached there before they got the 49'ers gig and they just don't do the hazing thing.

This whole story reminds of Walsh's comment on what set him apart, "There's a lot of bad coaching out there." I can understand the bunker mentality among players and even the guys backing up Incognito, but I'm surprised more pressure hasn't been brought on the coach. By the Walsh standard, he sucks.
