debt collectors

Collections company refuses to send "offer to settle debt" letter in the mail, rushes to take checking account information over the phone.

That's fishy as hell right?

if i were you i'd post my routing number on netphoria and let things sort themselves out

Trotskilicious 10-15-2013 05:16 PM

the only time i ever paid one of these people was because they were nice on the phone, accommodating with the payment and they actually only held me responsible for the 1000 that i had on the card, rather than the twenty jillion dollars in interest that i had accumulated.

Bread Regal 10-15-2013 05:30 PM

it just makes sense to me, to want to have a letter that states the exact amount they're settle for.

the guy kept offering a letter that would be sent out immediately after payment.
"but i want the offer to settle before i make the payment"
"we can't really send both"
"ok so just send me the offer to settle before i pay."
"that's not something we do"

at which point i heard yelling in the background, and he hastily put me on hold. 20 seconds later his manager picks up and starts giving me the same circuitous spiel. at one point he says that

"we're one of the top collections companies in the country"
"by what measure?"
"customer satisfaction"
"who are your customers?"
"..."

and he resumed his spiel. then i hung up.

i wonder how the people with my old phone numbers are holding up with all these calls

MusicMan4 10-15-2013 06:35 PM

i mean beyond my own debt issues i have gotten lots of harassment aimed at people who are definitely not me and these companies never believe you aren't who they're calling

MusicMan4 10-15-2013 06:35 PM

looking forward to telling my next "legitimate" debt collector that no my name is sarah and please stop calling

i kept getting this 888 phone call at 8 or 9 in the morning that i would never answer. they called once every two weeks for almost two months. yesterday they finally left a voicemail and it was the institution that handles my gap credit card. i had a bill due for $21 for a pair of cotton gym shorts that i bought in july. i don't even know if i got the bill and misplaced it or what i completely forgot about it.

Yeah... I had something happen two months ago where some "company" called and said they had a credit card bill for citbank that I owed 12k on. I never had a citibank and this woman started to argue with me that I did... and that they were going to be taking me to court if I didn't pay the 12k to them. When I asked them to show proof of my signatures and give me the address of where I was when the credit line was opened, they couldn't do this, and said they wouldn't give this info out on the phone. Then they kept asking for my ss# and I told her she should already have that info... anyway after a few minutes of back and forth I figured it was a scam and she ended the convo by letting me know a sheriff would be serving me papers soon. Nothing has happened yet.

sickbadthing 10-16-2013 06:32 AM

These are scams. I was called by a robo-thing and was told there was a lawsuit against me and all this bullshit.
