wow a mass effect joke that made me laugh

Trotskilicious 09-24-2013 11:19 PM

slunken how come you don't have this 80s soundtrack on vinyl

slunken 09-25-2013 02:28 AM

i have never been a fan of vangelis or mahavishnu orchestra for that matter. idk it just doesn't click.

slunken 09-25-2013 02:31 AM

i remember my best friend playing a vangelis cd for me once when were probably in the 10th grade (just getting into this "other" stuff) and i was like dude this sucks.

i think what it comes down to is the symphonic element. too many instruments/too much going on for my taste.

obviously i prefer the minimal stuff in that genre.

slunken 09-25-2013 02:37 AM

if you're looking for hints though i would recommend checking out the soundtrack bill wymann from the rolling stones did for a movie called "green ice". haven't seen the movie but i just pretend its about future weed. hands down my favorite ost.

heres the "song with words" from the movie

edit - after watching that 2nd video i'm going to have to get in gear and look for the movie.

vangelis and zamfir are the shit along with morricone, mansell, glass, badalamenti. chariots of fire soundtrack just as good as blade runner. no opulent john willams shit goin on.

Sonic Johnny 09-25-2013 02:42 AM

Noyen I will fight you if you say another bad thing about Jdubs ever again

slunken 09-25-2013 02:45 AM

speaking of badalamenti (semi-related), i saw the original pressing of the eraserhead ost in a shop for like $8 and, while i didn't necessarily want it, i told myself i wasn't going to buy it just to sell for profit. i kind of regret that decision.

which leads me to - i can never get enought work of angelo badalementi. he is woefully under-worked. also i realize he's not on the eraserhead ost but that just reminded me of it.

FFFFFUUUUUUUU

Sonic Johnny 09-25-2013 02:49 AM

Laura Palmer theme is god tier music tho

noyen 09-25-2013 02:50 AM

john williams is as bad as danny elfman tho sj. overrated 2 the max.

badalamenti and morricone are probably my two favs. that eraserhead soundtrack isnt too hard to find, im sure youll see one again. the original pressing can be had for under 25 bucks easy. its the deluxe reissue from a few years ago that is worth a lot.

slunken 09-25-2013 02:51 AM

i think people tend to forget that a lot of lynch's work is about cocaine psychosis

noyen 09-25-2013 02:53 AM

eraserhead is all about the white lines.

pink room is my jam.

its john barry that i'm sick of seeing.

i was thinking 35 for the original press of eraser. would have been a "worth-it" profit. didn't know that about the reissue though. but this was the first time i had seen it.

slunken 09-25-2013 02:58 AM

but yea morricone, moroder, tangerine dream. good scores.

noyen 09-25-2013 02:59 AM

reissue got a deluxe womp with a 7 inch peter ivers "in heaven" and some unearthed ivers stuff. wish id bought it. i did buy the dvd reissue which seems to be worth a lot too. sold for 25 bucks. the deluxe vinyl deal is selling well over a 75-100 now.

noyen 09-25-2013 03:00 AM

i forgot about tangerine dream. they did all sorts of awesome scores.

wtf was up with TOTO and dune tho, i never understood that.

slunken 09-25-2013 03:05 AM

i never got that one probably for that reason. risky business had bob segers old time rock and roll on it too. ???

i just have thief and sorceror, the pure scores.

yeah that brade runnah end theme is the tits, so much cool going on and it's not like waving its dick in your face 100% of the time like a john williams score
