n 1998, Hidekazu Yukawa, Senior Managing Director of Sega, became an overnight celebrity in Japan when he began appearing in Sega commercials that were promoting their upcoming console, the Dreamcast. The first commercial shows Yukawa overhearing some kids disrespecting Sega and praising Sony and their own gaming console, the PlayStation. Saddened by this, he mentions what he had heard to his employees and later hits the streets to wallow in his own sorrow. While in his state of despair, some gang members rough him up and say some demeaning things to him. He finally staggers home where his wife finds him as a total mess. When the commercial ends, you hear a kid say: “Get on your feet, Yukawa!”

Yukawa’s acting was so good that it convinced viewers that he was a professional actor. After the public viewed the first few commercials he was in, Sega was flooded with emails and phone calls that were praising him. He became so popular that his face was put on prepaid convenience store cards and photo sticker booths. Kids even mimicked his acting from the commercials. He was so famous, Sega decided to put his face on the back of Dreamcast boxes so it could attract more customers into buying a Dreamcast. Sega also gave him his own website.

Wow what an awful post.

Dreamcast was an awesome system. I still have one of mine hooked up to my tv and play it every now and then.

it had some eccentric and unique stuff. for its time graphics were pretty mind blowing ... but i can understand why somebody who got it around launch would be mad it got discontinued so quickly since they invested $300 or whatever

thing came out 15 years ago tomorrow. jeebus

I remember being like 9 years old and playing whatever the sonic game was for this in best buy one day

First online system. The VMU was great and it looks like the industry has just gotten around to copying it with the Wii U controller to an extent. The controller itself is essentially the Xbox controller without the dual analog. I also remember you could rent the system from Blockbuster before it was actually released which was awesome.

So many good games too.

TuralyonW3 09-08-2013 02:34 PM

Genesis had the blood in mortal kombat

SNES only had lame grey "sweat" shit

Future Boy 09-08-2013 03:02 PM

thats like a babys toy

MusicMan4 09-08-2013 03:20 PM

The only decent mortal kombat game was uncensored on snes and it played better than the genesis version

MusicMan4 09-08-2013 03:22 PM

I like every game console I own except the game com and virtual boy

The Saturn and dreamcast both had a ton of boss games and shouldn't have failed but what are you gonna do

America waasnt ready for Seaman and Shenmue

Order 66 09-08-2013 03:26 PM

dreamcast was doing okay.. more of a too little too late kind of thing. things would've turned out different if it had a dvd player probably

Bread Regal 09-08-2013 03:42 PM

i really liked the dreamcast controller design. nice joypad and trigger design and placement compared to the n64 and psx analog controllers.

Bread Regal 09-08-2013 03:44 PM

and sonic adventure was a wicked fun but not nearly as good a flagship game as mario 64.

MusicMan4 09-08-2013 04:52 PM

Only one analog stick was boneheaded though
The ps1 already had two
There's no better way to control the camera in 3D games

killtrocity 09-08-2013 05:01 PM

sonic adventure is awesome, anyone else raise the fuck out of some legendary immortal chao?

MusicMan4 09-08-2013 05:08 PM

sonic adventure is perfectly mediocre

MusicMan4 09-08-2013 05:09 PM

We all just remember how awesome the killer whale part was

MusicMan4 09-09-2013 08:50 PM

the dreamcast was released on 9/9/99

happy birthday to my fallen friend
