I live in michigan. If there was any state that is down with Canadia it's Michigan. We watch their TV, play their Hockey, we have Tim Horton's on every corner and we use "eh" way too much.

I get the impression though that the Overton window is much farther to the left in Canada and the UK than in the US. The mere existence of nationalized health care in both countries is a big testament to that. They have longer running more well established social welfare programs there. As in, a greater portion of the GDP is spent on social welfare. Also abortion and gay marriage aren't wedge issues that definte entire national elections.

Of course racist dog whistling is equally prominent over in the UK. I mean Enoch Powell was an MP as recently as 30 years ago.
