Considering Watchmen how good do you think Man of Steel will be?

Watchmen set the bar so high for Snyder I'm wondering if Man of Steel will be able to impress just as much. The visuals look stunning. They seem to be going for a darker moodier existential take on Superman. What I've seen of Kevin Costner in the trailers has been very touching. It will be interesting to see how Russell Crowe does as Jor-El in the flashbacks. Michael Shannon seems much more menacing as Zod than Terence Stamp ever was.

who cares
not me
good bye

Tchocky 05-15-2013 04:54 PM

Uh, Snyder's Watchmen was mediocre.

Xteenmachine 05-15-2013 04:54 PM

having not seen any snyder movies i wanted to pick up watchmen on dvd today but decided at the last minute that that might be a bad idea. should i bother?

Future Boy 05-15-2013 05:53 PM

it'll suck

Future Boy 05-15-2013 05:54 PM

damn, I meant 3.5 stars out of 5

Trotskilicious 05-15-2013 06:09 PM

watchmen was one of the hackiest hack pieces

Tchocky 05-15-2013 06:11 PM

Zack Snyder's best movie so far has been 300.

If that doesn't give you a reason to be concerned about Man of Steel, I urge you to carefully read the first sentence in this post again.

Trotskilicious 05-15-2013 06:15 PM

can we talk about how awful sucker punch was

Catherine Wheel 05-15-2013 06:19 PM

Sucker Punch was awful. At least we can agree on that.

Future Boy 05-15-2013 08:23 PM

Dawn of the Dead was pretty good.

Lucky Day Spa 05-17-2013 06:25 AM

main things i remember about watchmen are 1) stupid "greater good" ethics for dummies bullshit and 2) blue penis

what was that blue guy's name, mr fandango or something

Lucky Day Spa 05-17-2013 06:25 AM

i wonder if there's an outtake of mr fandango doing the helicopter

a.k.a. a Batman take on Superman.

dr. manhattan

are you this dismissive of the book

Lucky Day Spa 05-17-2013 08:10 PM

no, i haven't read the book. i take it it's substantially better than the film?

Trotskilicious 05-17-2013 08:21 PM

well it's a landmark game changing comic book

Future Boy 05-17-2013 09:25 PM

i waited for the movie

i guess i'm asking if it's worth approaching as a piece of fiction in and of itself, rather than as a comic specifically

Lucky Day Spa 05-17-2013 10:08 PM

also is there a spinoff featuring the blue penis as a main character because if not the rights-holders are leaving a lot of money on the table

i would say yes but the "1) stupid "greater good" ethics for dummies bullshit and 2) blue penis" are both in the book

the movie is nearly exactly the same except for cutting some things and simplifying the conspiracy. which is why i didn't like the movie and thought it was a hack job

so you probably would sneer at it

TuralyonW3 05-18-2013 12:56 AM

it's gotta be better than superman returns

i didn't sneer at the movie. anything with superheroes is always a bit silly; that kind of goes with the territory. it just wasn't that memorable

devoid of context it was just another grim & gritty superhero treatment, rather than being the landmark genre changing book it is

I think thats a safe bet.

That trailer rocks. I'm getting a real Matrix vibe from this movie. And not just because of the messiah / savior aspect of it. The sci-fi / action sequences parts.

Banana 05-22-2013 06:59 PM

Watchman was long which isn't so bad but it felt like it and it dragged. I don't have that much faith in Snyder being the one to reboot a series due to the failed reboot from years ago that suffered from being too long for it's own good and dragging the entire time.

Catherine Wheel 06-06-2013 06:10 PM

new trailer
