i like him too, he is the best kind of chef you could ask for and that's just how people in the kitchen are. brutally honest, needling, annoying, dismissive, insulting, basically intentionally trying to make you bust your top to gauge how good you are under pressure. Lot of guys get this part but fewer still get the warmth and positive encouragement that he brings to the table. Honestly he reminds me a lot of an ideal coach. He's going to give you a hard time, sure, but that makes the "good job" that is coming if you truly deserve it all the more rewarding and meaningful.

I had a cook at a Mexican restaurant make a nasty comment at me once. I ordered huevos over cheese enchiladas, without the habanero sauce. It came back with a ton of sauce on it, so I sent it back and asked them nicely to please fix it. The cook yelled "Why do people come to eat in a Mexican restaurant if they won't eat hot food?" The waitress acted offended too, and never came back to give me a refill or my ticket.

I can only hope that when I'm 70 I can afford to buy a woman like that.

they had constructed a reality in which they were purveyors of haute cuisine that was too high brow for the troglodytes of scottsdale to appreciate (never mind that scottsdale is a upper class suburb of phoenix). They talked about this in the first 10 minutes. Basically what they expected was that Gordon was going to show up, tell them their food was mind blowing and that the customers were the problem.

And when he said it was shit (except for the desserts which were revealed via facebook to be all store bought) they were beside themselves.

if you listen to things they say here and there, they really only want chef ramsey to say their food is good to 'silence the h8rs'. the husband alludes to it in the beginning interview and crazy eyes really pushes chef for more when he says her cake is good.

seriously though garlic aioli and blue cheese would taste awful and be a huge mess and i like both of those things separately
