Went to the dentist today, first time in a year. I have five cavities and my insurance is going to pay for exactly $0 of the cost. I don't even understand how I could have developed five cavities in the year since I have seen a dentist... I brush thoroughly several times a day, I don't eat sweets and I don't drink soda. The last time I had a cavity was more than a decade ago. why is this happening to me

Had a tooth pulled on Sunday, will have another one done next week. Life sucks.

how come your insurance won't pay anything ? what's the point of dental insurance then?

i need one more visit to finish a root canal and then need my two remaining wisdom teeth pulled. insurance is paying 80% but i might hit the $1500 limit. the root canal is going to end up costing me like $250 w/ insurance (20% of root canal + filling + $50 deductible)

i hadnt been for a cleaning in 10+ years sooooo

i havent been to a dentist since 2005 :erm:

last cleaning i had was in 1999 i believe... until bout a month ago. the hygienist was surprised that my teeth actually didnt look that bad and they didnt have to do any scaling or anything. just a regular cleaning.

i went a few times last year for tooth pain

basically from 1999-2013 i got really bad cavities in all four wisdom teeth; two others in other molars (both pulled); this cavity requiring a root canal; and one small cavity in another tooth.

considering i didnt take care of my teeth at all until like a year ago i think that's not that bad. i expected a lot worse when i finally went for a cleaning.

but whats the point of dental insurance that doesnt pay for cavities

i went to the dentist for the first time in 6 years the month before i left home. i paid $2k out of pocket to do deep root cleaning and get some cavities sorted so i was good to go.

a MONTH later i got a huge toothache and was in nepal. went to some creaky fucking dentists office off the street behind a curtain. dude told me the filling hadn't filled all the way and my tooth was rotting from the inside and that i needed a root canal. he filled it. the power went out in the middle so his wife came in to hold a flashlight. i decided to opt out of any more nepali dentistry.

what insurance do you have? What kind of insurance doesn't cover basic dental proceedures?

that does suck. hopefully they aren't severe and the fillings will be minor. Tell the dentist you need a script for the pain

i don't have dental insurance right now. and actually i don't think i will when i'm working either. so. that will be fun to figure out.

Me neither, eulogy. Go get your cleanings at a dental school. As long as you take care of your teeth you shouldn't run into any problems.

changed my life. now i floss regularly. pretty sure they're the whole reason i ended up not needing a deep cleaning.
