"In a lot of communities where they were putting these ads up, there's already so much misinformation about voting," said Rashad Robinson, executive director of online advocacy group ColorOfChange.org.

"In a lot of these communities, there's not always a good relationship between law enforcement and the community, and particularly for first-time voters, you're raising the specter that there could be some kind of interaction with law enforcement as part of the voting process."

Jim Cullinan, a spokesman for Clear Channel Outdoor (CCO), said in an email that the firm "reviewed the situation, and in light of the fact that these billboards violate our policy of not accepting anonymous political ads, we asked the client how they would prefer to work with us to bring the boards into conformance with our policy."

"The client thought the best solution was to take the boards down, so we are in the process of removing them," he said.

joke's on whoever's paying to have those put up. there are like .0000474% confirmed counts of fraud per vote each election

and any voter fraud this year seems to be coming from the right so far. but i guess its wise to hype it up... they'll have a strawman once obama wins

so what i don't understand here is the "outrage" on shit like this. requiring people to have a voter Id card, or being against voter fraud... everyone claims it's "racist" now. well fuck you if you're in favor of voter fraud

The point is to dissuade certain demographics from voting, not to stop actual voter fraud which as you say is uncommon. It's just basic advertising principles - elicit a response via juxtaposition of ideas

It's less racist and more classist. Low education + confusing ads/phone calls with misleading dates to vote and false restrictions + these billboards = people afraid of showing up to the polls because thy might have a non-current ID and think they'll get arrested and charged with a felony.

low income people are more likely to be duped into being paid to vote fraudulently and are usually less educated. i don't see an issue with a billboard that is in fact telling the truth

Clear channel sucks for plenty of other reasons, I just made that the title to fit the song.
