good article

vixnix 10-22-2012 10:03 PM

Well that was a boring way to tell me something I learned in Epistemology 101.

vixnix 10-22-2012 10:05 PM

I think the more interesting point is that it appears human can't live with that conclusion; to interact with others and "function", have a job, etc. We have to adopt some kind of working hypothesis, ultimately based on nothing stable. But go ahead and tell all the "rational atheists" that.

yes, basically, but atheism is still a more rational conclusion based on the body of knowledge determined by science which most people in the developed world accept

vixnix 10-22-2012 10:09 PM

How so?

Trotskilicious 10-22-2012 10:10 PM

by developed world he means white people

Logic 101 - you can't prove the non-existence of anything, so I don't think Atheism is a very rational conclusion either.

killtrocity 10-22-2012 11:27 PM

the brain uses 90% of the body's glucose. Just something to think about

i'm not even a hardcore athiest but you're a fucking moron.

I choose to believe that you don't have a big black cock. sorry for being so irrational

vixnix 10-22-2012 11:46 PM

Pretty sure she's thought about it much more than you.

IAMTHEDOORWAY 10-22-2012 11:48 PM

There are known knowns; there are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns; that is to say there are things that, we now know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns – there are things we do not know we don't know.

why in the hell would you think that.

and even if so, doesn't mean that's not a moronic statement

duovamp 10-22-2012 11:52 PM

Don't engage.

TuralyonW3 10-22-2012 11:52 PM

I really fucking shouldn't.

they've obviously thought about these issues more than me and would have the upper hand

null123 10-23-2012 12:51 AM

Trust your gut

Luke de Spa 10-23-2012 01:03 AM

gut your trust

pavementtune 10-23-2012 01:14 AM

Go on then, enlighten me and work out a logical, deductive proof that God (or E.T., I don't care) does not exist. You'd be the first in the history of philosophy, can't wait to see it.

"None of us would seriously consider the possibility that all the gods of Homer really exist, and yet if you were to set to work to give a logical demonstration that Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, and the rest of them did not exist you would find it an awful job. You could not get such proof."
Bertrand Russell, what a moron, right?

TuralyonW3 10-23-2012 01:16 AM

and yet Bertrand Russell came to atheism as a rational conclusion. go fucking figure

True, but I thought you were implying that she had stated something moronic because she hadn't given much thought to what she had said.

I agree with her.

Have you read anything philosophical or theological apart from Dawkins and Hitchens? Whose work I don't really classify as either.

TuralyonW3 10-23-2012 01:20 AM

jesus Christ I've barely read any Hitchens and no Dawkins. quit casting aspersions based on nothing. i've read all kind of fucking things, including plenty of philosophy, but that need not even factor into this conversation...I can think for myself, thank you.

and pavementtune if you're asking me to deduct a logical proof against something that doesn't exist then you don't understand why i'm calling you a moron

pavementtune 10-23-2012 01:27 AM

And Russell filled books with thoughts on Agnosticism and Atheism - go fucking figure. I find it funny that you're not coming up with an actual argument that could become a non-judgdmental discussion, you just say "that's moronic". Uninteresting, have fun.

vixnix 10-23-2012 01:27 AM

Why would what you've read on any given subject not have anything to do with a discussion on that subject.

You just sound like the typical Dawkins/Hitchens fundamentalists that have been spouting off everywhere lately.

TuralyonW3 10-23-2012 01:30 AM

fuck why do I punish myself

according to you pavementtune rational conclusions don't exist

can you give me an example of a rational conclusion you hold?
