Happiness is not something ready made.

Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions. Don't wait around for other people to be happy for you. Any happiness you get you've got to make yourself. A sure way to lose happiness, I found, is to want it at the expense of everything else.

that fucker came to the Border's I worked at, my manager was practically sucking his cock and the whole thing was pretty hilarious

does anybody find these preachy generalizations to be helpful ? you prety much need the context of other preachy nebulous sorts of quotations, like an entire bookful to understand any sort of deeper meaning, i.e. all of that eastern stuff in this vein. usually it's just horeshit that people write to sell books case in point Joel Olsteen

I'm pretty sure my Aunt has about 87 of these things hanging in her bathrooms and kitchen, usually next to a cat or something or juxtaposed with the american flag or the cross

I worked at Borders from 2004-2007. Those signings are something else. We had John McCain and "Dr. Laura" and lots of other people, but those two stick out a lot to me. A lot of people refused to work when Dr. Laura was there, pretty much all the gay men which was uh, most of them. She was a super bitch, didn't like the pens we had for her (and we had a spread of like 15 of them for her to choose from). McCain was alright. Pretty nice.

Time spent laughing is time spent with the gods. - Japanese proverb

You gotta find something to laugh about, or you're gonna die, IMO. You'll die anyway, but sooner if nothing seems funny to you anymore. You gotta find someone who can make you laugh and lean on them.

hnibos 10-19-2012 01:10 AM

Most importantly you gotta just be happy.

MyOneAndOnly 10-19-2012 10:09 AM

ilikeplanets 10-19-2012 10:12 AM

MyOneAndOnly 10-19-2012 10:22 AM

Happiness doesn't exist in any meaningful manner and the pursuit of it is a convenient way to distract us all from the fact that we're not doing anything important

Dead Frequency 10-19-2012 11:00 AM

You guys hear about that giant that was vomiting in Detroit? Yeah, it's all over town.

yo soy el mejor 10-19-2012 11:02 AM

there you go sounding like a hallmark card again and thinking you know something no one else does.

rules don't exist either, doesn't mean they aren't an important concept. all rules are imaginary except like laws of physicals and what have you.

imo, happiness = contentedness. what people see as "happy" is an ideal no one really reaches for a sustained period.

and i agree life is meaningless, but i don't think it's pointless, and some things are important

hnibos 10-19-2012 12:47 PM

Like being happy.

i think stuff like the OP is useful because it gets people talking. it doesnt mean much in and of itself but it facilitates conversation.
