Making fun of Monte was once all in good fun, because it was more his weird projects that were the object of derision. Then, like anything, a few people took it way too far. In real life, we would all walk away from those people and carry on. But this is the internet, so those few people are still leading the bullying, years later.

There's a fair bit of evidence that higher black turnout in '08 because of candidate Obama's run aided the passage of Prop. 8. I suppose you blame them as much. All sorts of social change is, has, and will always be, opposed by so-called "religious" institutions. You're not going to change anybody's opinions on a message board by posting links to four year Los Angeles Times articles. You're not educating anyone. What I was indicating was that sufficient evidence exists that a significant percentage of black Americans strongly disagree with giving homosexuals the right to marry or for granting same-sex couples equal rights under the law. The age-old American practice of shitting on those struggling to be accepted after you yourself have struggled and overcome.

The confluence of events that led to passage of Prop 8 owes credit to many groups, not just the Mormons. No one group deserves all of the blame in this instance and certainly not one single person posting on a fansite's message board. Picking on Monte for his self-importance or his teacher's pet behavior is fair, but just spare us the religious attacks. You'll just look fucking pathetic.

I never said it wasn't okay to criticize the LDS church for its actions with regard to Proposition 8. What I'm saying is tarring and feathering an entire religion for taking a stance on something you don't agree with is lame. Plenty of Mormons are making the world a hell of a lot better place than the dicks that worked to get Proposition 8 passed, and almost certainly a better place than the majority of the people who frequent internet forums. As much as any religious institution would like to, they don't speak for every follower.

If you think Monte is an idiot for believing what his religious leaders believe, that's fine. I doubt the guy has really given it much thought, to be honest. I personally don't have a clue how anyone could justify denying the right of two people to legally marry under the law. It's totally crazy.

I am always really surprised to find people here caring about gay rights. I would never have guessed.

I think that sucks and I hope he feels shame when his children find out what he did. I don't believe any god would agree with inhibiting the path to happiness of another of his or her children. I still sincerely doubt that he gave it much thought, which is the sad part.

I stand by what I said though - tarring and feathering the whole religion, given the real good that's done around the world by them, is wrong.
