Did Monte ever do his mission trip? I don't recall - if he did, it was likely back in a time where I had taken a break on this forum (early 2000s). Not really related to anything per se but I just wondered. Mormons typically have massive fucking social communities/support groups in areas where they settle together and will help each other in finding jobs through their social networks, have their own sources of charity, etc. and they do have a rather large constituency of successful community and business leaders - so it wouldn't surprise me if Monte was supported in a sort of extended family where he could essentially get away with working on a per diem basis, especially until he found a wife. The point is that even if he has some form of ASD he has probably been somewhat sheltered from the full social and economic consequences of that. Yeah, his thinking is rather rigid and he appears to have difficulty modeling the emotions/cognitions of others and his posts quite often make me do a facepalm...but hell, that's just Monte. However much we bitch about his horrendous composition it should be clear enough that he won't, and probably can't change easily or he would have already.

I dunno, it just seems like the jokes/slight jabs at Monte were funnier and more well-thought out a few years ago. Now it's just random attacks with no wit or forethought.

As a sort-of-professional (researcher in clinical psychology, but not autism in particular) I would be very surprised if that was the case. He may have some cognitive disorder but there is no way one can tell just from his posts.

One thing that makes Netphoria so fun is the lack of respect for Billy and the generally harsh tone. A lot of people have fantasized about band members' death, STDs, etc., but I doubt that anyone genuinely wishes Billy and others harm. It's just a way to cope with the joke this band has become. Monte just got caught up in this. He is an amazing character but I agree that there is a limit to how much one should make fun of this.

Making fun of Monte was once all in good fun, because it was more his weird projects that were the object of derision. Then, like anything, a few people took it way too far. In real life, we would all walk away from those people and carry on. But this is the internet, so those few people are still leading the bullying, years later.
