Is Grizzly Bear too lame for you guys?

I listened to their last two albums yesterday and the new one almost 4 times today and then saw them tonight.

Good band, in my estimation. The new album is phenomenal.

Sonic Johnny 09-20-2012 11:49 PM

I have no particularly strong feelings either way about them, but I am kinda baffled that they're on Warp

Eulogy 09-20-2012 11:51 PM

check the new album if you haven't yet. from my small amount of exposure to them, it feels like a big step forward.

redbreegull 09-21-2012 12:19 AM

I don't know them that well, but I have Veckatmist (sp?) and While You Wait For the Others is a killer track

the new one is great. called Shields. The one before Veckiewhaterbrgjeurhwugh is Yellow House and that's also good. But Shields is the best I think.

pitchfork gives it a 9.1. i dunno what that means to people anymore, but i think it's accurate.

Eulogy 09-21-2012 12:26 AM

while you wait for others was a highlight of the show tonight, btw

Eulogy 09-21-2012 12:27 AM

my favorite from the new one is Yet Again

but really, just a solid show all around. all these albums sound good to me. don't know how i hadn't heard them outside of whatever commercials Two Weeks was in

pavementtune 09-21-2012 01:11 AM

I'd say Shields is one of the best 2012 albums. I hadn't heard of Grizzly Bear before I saw them at Roskilde, I'd love to hear them live again. So how much of the new album did they play, eulogy?

Yet again is good, also Gun-Shy. I can't get this one out of my head, probably my favorite:

redbull 09-21-2012 01:15 AM

wasn't big on veckatimest but i am liking shields. seeing them next weekend

i was actually surprised at how little of the new stuff they played. maybe a little less than half. or maybe exactly half. but the crowd was totally pleased. and i was surrounded by die hards. and a few assholes who needed to take pictures of every fucking thing that happened.

Eulogy 09-21-2012 01:38 AM

highlights for me were Yet Again and Sun in Your Eyes

did you listen to their previous 2 albums before "yesterday"?

slunken 09-21-2012 02:01 AM

he's like the "indie rock" "dave matthews" imo

pavementtune 09-21-2012 02:12 AM

This thread did it. I just reserved a pass for the LA gig. :)

Maybe I'm too old, but I dont understand this band and why anybody likes them. Not horrible, just completely forgetable. Like a lot of bands in the past decade they sound like an attempt to throw the last 20 years worth of alt rock into a blender and pour out some kind of overly ernest pastiche. 15 years ago they would have had a one record deal on 4AD or some other alt label and then nothing.

not sure why you put that in quotes.

also put the punctuation mark inside the quotation mark for the love of god

Eulogy 09-21-2012 11:57 AM

you can tell how furiously scotty was typing his brutal takedown of grizzly bear by the fact that he had to edit it to clean it up

Mooney 09-21-2012 06:04 PM

i came here to make this thread. veckatimest is one of my favourite records from the past like five years. i don't know if i like 'shields' as much yet, but i really love speak in rounds.

I felt the exact same way until I saw this performance:

totally changed my opinion of them, checked out their albums with fresh ears and now they are a favorite of mine.

It almost always is. And in this particular case it definitely is.

Who taught you that?

reprise85 09-23-2012 03:13 PM

whichever teacher first taught me

i googled it like ten years ago and found out i got taught incorrectly.

I also got taught to put it outside in elementary or middle school or somewhere. It actually make more sense to me to have it outside unless it "belongs" to the quoted text if you know what I mean, but that's not how it works

Trotskilicious 09-25-2012 12:10 AM
