Pretty good scene when lord G broke down while breaking the news to his wife

vixnix 09-19-2012 03:41 AM

OMG I didn't realize it had started.

TuralyonW3 09-19-2012 03:41 AM

Oh yeah baby it's fuckin ON

Starla 09-19-2012 07:04 AM

Not gonna be here until Jan 2013. :(

Eulogy 09-19-2012 07:33 AM

starla, the powers of the internet are at your disposal!

i thought the premiere was pretty good.

Starla 09-20-2012 08:00 PM

I hope Shirley Maclaine is good in this. I like her in a few films, but I never thought she belonged at Downton.

Starla 09-20-2012 08:05 PM

my fav scene from last season

vixnix 09-20-2012 08:33 PM

Unbeatable, she's just...nobody can top her in those roles.

Trotskilicious 09-20-2012 10:26 PM

gosford park

Eulogy 09-20-2012 11:38 PM

Where are you guys finding season 3 online? I was hoping amazon would have them streaming.

Just watched her best exotic marigold hotel and loved it. I think she needed a bigger role though.

http://www.tv-links.eu/tv-shows/Downton-Abbey_24131/

it was really high quality.

Starla 09-21-2012 12:38 AM

Thank you :)

Eulogy 09-21-2012 12:39 AM

n/p

enjoy!

i think this will be better than season 2. i so love this melodrama. i don't even know why.

Starla 09-21-2012 12:50 AM

It's best one that's been out in a long time. I was lucky enough to discover the first two seasons at once so I could watch them one after the other without having to wait.

oh yeah that's exactly what i did.

i've missed it so much

matthew crawley has grown on me so much. but my first true love is branson

what a beautiful man. with great hair.

vixnix 09-21-2012 04:00 AM

Gosford park is excellent. When I first started watching downton I thought how much like gosford park it was and had to look it up, he's a terrific writer. It wouldn't be the same show without Maggie smith though.

Starla 09-22-2012 04:22 AM

I have to say... this season is going to be better than the last one.

I am confused about one thing.... the disfigured man who came to stay at Downton, during the war.... claimed to be connected to the Grantham family, then ended up leaving. Was he really related to them, or was he just trying to get the estate?

I wasn't sure if I would like Matthew at first either. He seemed a little dry, then the story picked up a lot, especially with the episode where the flu went around. I like Lady Mary, she's not too proper and has some mystery to her :)

Vix, I think I'll be watching that this week if I have time. I also like Maggie in Room with a view.

Trotskilicious 09-22-2012 04:42 AM

do you already like altman movies

TuralyonW3 09-22-2012 12:37 PM

Starla, it's left ambiguous whether he was actually their relative, but I think most people assume he's a troubled grifter

Eulogy 09-22-2012 12:41 PM

yeah, that's the truth that would make poor lady edith seem the most pathetic so that was probably the case

poor edith. i hope she can find someone better than sir antony. what a weirdo. nice though, i guess. and his coming to branson's rescue obviously moved him up a few pegs in my book

TuralyonW3 09-22-2012 12:43 PM

How is he a weirdo? He's a totally decent old dude. He's refused her because he knows he's too old for her.

Eulogy 09-22-2012 12:46 PM

he just strikes me as very awkward in conversations

i guess he's just smitten though. i dunno. you don't think he's at all weird?

I wonder if they will bring him back later.

I thought the whole story with her messing around with the farmer was a little off. I hope she doesn't get stuck w/ him either.

mccabe and mrs miller is fuckin incredible too but it has nothing to do with this thread at all

Trotskilicious 09-23-2012 12:43 AM

oh i forgot to mention since you haven't seen his films yet it's best to get a feel for the conversation(s) rather than expect to catch every word; it's how he rolls.
