She seems like a cafeteria Catholic to me. It's hard to define what you believe in when you don't adhere to doctrine. She might be a little confused about her beliefs, but who isn't from time to time?
|
but anyway I still think my point is pretty valid. There are a ton of obscure, vague, ambiguous things in the New Testament. Free of institutional authority telling you how to interpret every single line, someone could come up with something quite different than the ways in which Christianity is currently practiced by organized denominations... and they do. I think there are a lot of people who consider themselves Christians but reject institutional Christianity because they want to ******* ideas about gays not being doomed, other faiths having validity, or anything else important to them. Even people who subscribe to strict Church theologies tend to do a lot of picking and choosing. My girlfriend's parents are hardcore Catholics, but they are doctors and manage to rationalize sex before marriage and birth control.

"Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church."[1 Cor. 14:34–35]
yeah, lots of churches reject that but it's in the new testament. someone reading it in a vacuum and taking it seriously would then be worse off than someone in a modern christian church |
actually i don't even think you're sticking to your original point anymore so nevermind

Everybody knows Christians contradict their own texts. What religion doesnt? How is this any kind of insight?
|
It's like quoting religion for dummies.
|
Does papa johns give anyone else horrible shits?
I paired it with taco bell today, huge mistake |
nope
|
People are always going to contradict their own ideals. People are imperfect.
That's actually kind of the point of religion in a sense |

RBG look what i found in the grocery store

RBG what is the point you are trying to make? Because people's accounts only line up 98% instead of 100% everything they're saying must be false?
If you interview 4 people who were at the twin towers during 9/11 I bet you'd get four slightly varying stories where people pay attention to and recall different details. Doesn't mean it didn't happen- in fact, it suggests there wasn't a conspiracy. People who conspire and redact the record and "systematically destroy" opposing evidence have 100% synchronized stories... and people who don't know what they're talking about don't line up 98% of the time |
i think its more important that a giant man in the sky sculpting us out of clay sounds like a fucking fairy tale

Have you ever heard of metaphor
