Not showing up for jury duty.

Have any of you not shown up to jury duty without being excused? What was the reason? What happened after not showing up?

kelsome 09-10-2012 11:58 PM

I think I had jury duty and forgot to go. I lost the letter :(

TuralyonW3 09-11-2012 12:07 AM

Go - its fun.

slunken 09-11-2012 12:42 AM

1 - better than work

2 - if you get drafted shit gets intense

3 - if selected you get a signed certificate of completion

slunken 09-11-2012 12:45 AM

i think my proudest moment was, during one of the many drafts, when they asked if anybody disagreed with the war on drugs. nobody raised their hand. i was like you've got to be kidding me and raised my hand. discussed the invisible boogeyman with my fellow townspeople for the next 20 minutes.

slunken 09-11-2012 12:47 AM

well also i got selected to be jury chairperson/foreman for the case i was selected on. spent 2 weeks drawing pictures of people and watching cool videos.

slunken 09-11-2012 12:48 AM

also it made me blieve even more that insurance is a scam virus on the populace

slunken 09-11-2012 12:49 AM

i'm telling you, having a pizza party in the judge's chambers after hours is one of the coolest feelings in life you will ever experience.

Order 66 09-11-2012 01:01 AM

My friend alleges he never shows up and they don't do anything. I guess it depends how hard your district cracks down on no-shows. But the general consensus here is you dont have to show up and they wont do anything

slunken 09-11-2012 01:04 AM

yea d00d just don't show up furc it what they gonna do huh arrest meh i'm 2 busy slacking off as it is

reprise85 09-11-2012 01:18 AM

how come some people get chosen for jury duty a bunch of times and i never have

is it random?

kelsome 09-11-2012 01:22 AM

I don't know, reprise. This is the first time I've gotten a letter telling me to report to jury duty. I got that letter over a month ago and I'm pretty sure I remember it was for September sometime. Then I totally forgot about it until I was watching the episode of 30 Rock where Liz was summoned back in Chicago and pretended to be a character from star wars to get out of it.

I don't really know where the letter is now, so I guess I'm going to call in the morning and see if they can tell me. I hope I don't get a fine or anything :/ I'll go if I haven't missed it.

slunken 09-11-2012 01:30 AM

idk i just think this a reflection of your overall character or merit

Order 66 09-11-2012 01:42 AM

I would go... but i have a job. I mean they'll excuse me but its not like i dont have shit to do. If i had a sinecure position or something i'd go. I'm just not at a point in my life where i have that kind of time

reprise85 09-11-2012 01:48 AM

post/av

Order 66 09-11-2012 01:51 AM

I was for jury duty before i was against it

kelsome 09-11-2012 06:28 AM

A reflection of my merit because I forgot?

Trotskilicious 09-11-2012 10:28 AM

the american criminal justice system, don't it make you so fuckin proud?

Future Boy 09-11-2012 10:36 AM

only when they give em the chair

Dead Frequency 09-11-2012 10:51 AM

Honestly it's fucking awful that it is such an important aspect of our court system and yet compensation is dreadfully inadequate. The one time I did it the defendants plead so I was sent home. At the time I was working a shit job that was nearby so I would go and get stoned on the lunch breaks. Otherwise not only would it be a scheduling pain in the ass but you're also looking at a cut in pay, if you're hourly. Best way to get out of jury duty is to claim a prejudice opinion about something relevant. Of course, influencing your boss could be the easier route.

kelsome 09-12-2012 12:00 AM

ok so i haven't missed it. I will report here the results of my first jury duty event in a couple of weeks.

kelsome 09-12-2012 12:00 AM

stay tuned.

kelsome 09-24-2012 09:03 AM

Update. There are many magazines available to read, as well as 30 king James bibles.

hnibos 09-24-2012 09:36 AM

They just sent me a letter a few months later saying that because I'm a bad boy, I have to go again on a certain date or they may spank me.

kelsome 09-24-2012 09:54 AM

Update. Bibles were for swearing us in. I am sworn in and waiting for to bevtaken to judge to see if they want me for criminal case.
