Dear Obama Supporters Who Claim to also be "Left-wing": Please Justify Yourselves

Seriously. I question whether it is even a fair to vote for Obama under a "lesser of two evils" argument. How is this man anything but a right-wing nut job?

So are you an Obama supporter / democratic party hack or are you a genuine left-wing ideologue, because they seem pretty mutually exclusive at the moment.

Trotskilicious 06-06-2012 10:29 AM

i think we already had this argument in some supreme court thread or another

however, I would like to ask why you, of all people, bandy about the term "ideologue" to refer to the political wing you don't agree with?

MyOneAndOnly 06-06-2012 12:49 PM

so you don't understand how someone could disagree with a politician on some things and still vote for them?

eyeroll

Trotskilicious 06-06-2012 01:02 PM

well when he's a civil rights crushing warmongering torture loving liar i dunno how you can just ignore it because gays

duovamp 06-06-2012 01:26 PM

I support him because he's a socialist.

Trotskilicious 06-06-2012 01:56 PM

lol by what definition

duovamp 06-06-2012 02:01 PM

By America's definition, the only one that matters.

Trotskilicious 06-06-2012 02:14 PM

oh so you mean "is not republican therefore communist"

sppunk 06-06-2012 02:29 PM

He's arguably done more to erase personal freedom than any president in history. The fact he's a warmonger is icing in his weird neo-con cake.

Trotskilicious 06-06-2012 02:45 PM

George W. Bush is on line 2 for sppunk.

sppunk 06-06-2012 03:00 PM

Yeah, Obama's policies again are arguably worse than his. As painful as it may be, these drone attacks, ability to hold citizens captive with no warrants, etc are devastating IMO.

subzero 06-06-2012 03:18 PM

what happened to nimrods son?

Trotskilicious 06-06-2012 03:19 PM

bush established the precedent for all that

i think it's only worse because "liberals" who used to care about this shit just push it to the side because gay marriage

sppunk 06-06-2012 03:47 PM

He didn't do the drone stuff in countless countries though, right? He didn't authorize the potential killing of US citizens by drone iirc. He's probably a better choice than Romney, but I can't cite for him again in good conscious.

MyOneAndOnly 06-06-2012 03:49 PM

any republican these 4 yrs would have done the same.

so what's the point? Obama bad, so vote for a republican war monger?

stupid

Trotskilicious 06-06-2012 04:30 PM

you're a fucking moron if you think i'm voting for anyone

Trotskilicious 06-06-2012 04:31 PM

i mean i just love in scotts idiot shadow world where everyone's as dumb as he is, that someone who won't vote for obama is voting for romney

you are a goddamn moron jesus

Oh, but the arrogant marxist brainswashed neo-libtards believe state rights must be a delusion. And they must do all they can to continue the Orwellian double-speak as their current fabain socialist god Obama does his best to brainwash the masses with his class envy rhetoric.

jczeroman 06-06-2012 05:18 PM

thread delivered.

jczeroman 06-06-2012 05:22 PM

I made this thread in part because I haven't lived in the US for such a long time and was shocked/appalled to see a bunch of Obama 2012 yard signs and bumperstickers when I visited this spring. I just wanted to know if people were really that stupid. I knew that the vast majority of republicans were willing to follow whoever made the loudest noise against godless socialists, but I would have thought that the eight year memory of Bush's policies, which Obama has effectively followed or expanded, would be fresh enough to cause actual left-wingers to go somewhere else. Maybe this merely confirms my suspicion that there really is almost no discernable left-wing in the US.

I meant that in a neutral way. And, I know this is going to sound incredible for those who have been here longer than three years or so, but it is no longer safe to assume that I don't agree with "the left."

I wasn't paying attention at this time, so it doesn't count. I now have time to kill while I wait for the universe to give me a job.

your premise is bogus. You're stereotyping half of the electorate.

Many democrats agree with all or much of Obama's foreign policy. Most progressives and liberals are not single issue voters. They won't jump to another candidate on one or two issues.

Yeah but I mean it'd be a kind of shitty and baseless argument. Someone could argue any point, no matter how wrong.

Order 66 06-06-2012 08:18 PM

grover norquist is a right wing nutjob

liddy gordon is a right wing nutjob

ted nugent is a right wing nutjob

&ect ect

i won't get into another insipid WHY OBAMA DOES/DOESNT SUCK argument but obama's ideologies and politics are nowhere near "rightwing nutjob" territory

duovamp 06-06-2012 08:25 PM

Also any politician who believes evolution should not be in biology textbooks.

TuralyonW3 06-06-2012 08:43 PM

Zzzzzzzzzz

john's ego 06-06-2012 08:59 PM

Yeah definitely not a right wing nutjob.

Authoritarian corporatist.

But not a right wing nutjob.

You've been away from the US media as well who only question Obama on things like gay rights while tapping, gitmo, troops, et al are largely ignored. The media benefits from the red v blue myth.

Trotskilicious 06-07-2012 03:59 AM

i like how it's red state v blue state when in actuality it's red county vs blue county

so much easier for them to stereotype all texans as X

So then "most democrats" probably aren't as "left-wing" as they think they are.

British people have some funny things to say about Texas.

Trotskilicious 06-07-2012 04:09 AM

i think the divisive talk of red and blue states deliberately misconstrues the fact that most major cities are politically similar.

Unlike conservatives, Democrats don't self identify under one narrow political ideology. many democrats aren't liberals. Many democrats aren't even Progressives. Some of them are actually conservative (but not many these days). And some, like Obama, are hawks on foreign policy and moderates on social policy.

look at what happens when Democrats run congress. it's like herding cats just to get them to pass a bill. There's a contingency of conservatives that break to vote with republicans on social issues, and there are a lot of "moderates" who vote with republicans on issues of economy and finance. The real "Liberal" wing of the Democratic party has very little power in Washington
