I want to get away

The wife and I have a week or so of vacation in August, and I'm looking to get the fuck out of here.

Nowhere in the world is off limits. Scenic beauty and exoticism are important factors (including both urban and rural). Don't care about beaches.

Just went to UK and Paris so scratch that.

We might just end up going to appalachians and chicago with friends, or vising family in DC and New York, but I want to look into other things as well.

help me

TuralyonW3 03-10-2012 02:42 PM

was considering things like ancient ruins in greece or tokyo and haokkaido in japan...

maybe new zealand, or scandanavia or something...

obviously plenty of big scenic places in the US too...

reprise85 03-10-2012 02:50 PM

ancient ruins sound rad

SuckSuckStyle 03-10-2012 02:51 PM

you won't be disappointed with new zealand. it has everything on your list. the only drawback is you'll feel jibbed that you only had 2 weeks.

the american southwest is also a really cool place that covers your list. tons of different things to do and spots to visit- lots and lots of ruins, culture, natural beauty, etc.

yosemite, not that exotic but very beautiful.

both places cater to all levels of travel (backpack/camping/driving/campers/hotels)

cocksure 03-10-2012 02:57 PM

yeah central asia rules

edit: southeast asia too. basically: asia rules.

SuckSuckStyle 03-10-2012 03:05 PM

Look into Burma- it's controversial but cheap, safe, beautiful and much more untouched than the rest of SE Asia

ilikeplanets 03-10-2012 04:21 PM

If I had this luxury I would choose Italy. Take pics!

teh b0lly!!1 03-10-2012 04:27 PM

I went to Italy for almost two months and had the most rotten time

TuralyonW3 03-10-2012 04:57 PM

Thanks for being so helpful sucksuck. I would never have thought Burma but that looks amazing

For an appalachian getaway you could spend a weekend in Asheville and drive/hike up and down the blue ridge pkwy. Pretty beautiful stuff.

I was looking for the shittiest pic of Pittsburgh I could find to post ironically, but they were all equally shitty and I couldn't decide so I gave up. Cool story, me.

Trotskilicious 03-10-2012 06:22 PM

by the way i would like to submit a petition to rename the US state of Georgia to Jawjuh so we won't have to clarify anymore.

duovamp 03-10-2012 06:26 PM

Trotskilicious 03-10-2012 06:29 PM

yeah i've been researching it since it just became open to tourists in the past few years, and other than feeding corruption and heroin by spending money there, I can't find much to worry about (and there are lots of ways to limit that kind of spending if you try and deal directly w/locals as much as you can). I've heard really, really good things. Especially if the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, et al freaks you out at all. I heard Rangoon, even with a few million people, is super slow and easy going.
