I really know jack shit about art. I've got a friend who's an artist though, Greg Luckeroth, he does a lot of woodblock prints, some pretty sweet stuff:

So here is an image by Thomas Joshua Cooper. I'd say he is probably one of the greatest living photographers.
He travels to some of the most extreme places on earth and makes images on an old 19th century camera, and has so far discovered several islands on his travels.
