did any of you have experiences with black people where you weren't sitting there thinking "that's a black person, there. that person has brown skin. i better carefully register everything they do as 'black'"

one time we were having an ordinary and boring lesson, around 9th grade. suddenly the door creeks open, somebody yelled 'FIGHT!!', then like 3-4 students just got up and naturally rushed outside to the teacher's astounded look, it was so funny

never knew how much i missed ya

in hs i TA'd for that one teacher and there was a kid named Isaiah and he sat near the desk i worked at and we became friends. HELLA funny dude but just always in trouble. deep in gang shit, had baby mama shit. drugs..whatever. but he was a good guy so his nickname was "can't get right". and he'd write his "rhymes" in class all the time and give them to me to read. i got him a job at the bakery i worked at, would give him rides to school or home sometimes, and by senior year he would tell anyone who knew me, esp other teachers... that i was his little sister. so i sent him a valentine candygram that year to be nice/as a joke and on his way to the class period where they passed them out, he got in a fight and was beat in the face with a lock on a chain and suspended for a week and never got it :(

when i told him he was like "damn. dat makes me more pissed din da fight."

then my freshman year of college one of my roommates and i decided to make me a fake boyfriend to trick our other roommate into thinking i was straight and see how far we could go. for fun. so i just used Isaiah and i told him so he went out and bought red bandannas for us to wear and pose in a picture together the next time i came home.
it never happened but i loved that he did it
