Finding old stuff that you totally forgot about / ask sppunk
Is one of my favorite things. Cleaning out a closet tonight, I found a box that had a bunch of old CD holders.
One in particular had the following CDs: Operation Ivy, Less than Jake, NOFX, Goldfinger, Green Day, Get Up Kids, The Ataris, Lagwagon, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Suicide Machines, Dead Milkmen, Promise Ring, The Rentals, Fugazi and MXPX. It was like my junior year in high school ran up behind me and scared the crap out of me. Crazy how a flood of memories can all of a sudden overtake your mind. |
fugazi does not belong in that pile of filth
|
Filth indeed, but those CDs were the ones we listened to most on roadtrips and stuff. None of those are even close to being my favorite bands (old school Green Day notwithstanding), but they all have some pretty powerful emotions for me.

To his credit he was 10 or so when I was listening to this stuff, so he missed the late 90s swing/ska/punk rock movement that predated the emo craze.
|
i love that kinda thing.
i was browsing the forum archives and read through a bunch of my old posts from HS/college. it was a trip. It was like reading the journal i never wrote. girl stories, rowing stories....nights that i had forgotten about that are somehow documented here lol. |

In other news... Green Day recently played Red 7. I would have LOVED to go. From what I heard, they pretty much only played old stuff. |
Oct. 27, 2004, still ranks above my wedding day for the best day of my life. Kathryn's fully aware, understanding and supportive of this.
Might as well make this an ask sppunk thread; I'll only answer questions I feel worthwhile and that have some kind of thought to them. |
lol i remember going to see MXPX when i was like 15. I took a girl whose parents were unsure of me bc i had an eyebrow ring.
sigh..... i found out about all their God stuff later. |
green day shows look like a lot of fun. they always play all the old hits, a few rarer songs, and sure know how to put on a big spectacle. say what you want about selling out and not being true punk but half the crusty old farts that keep it true to the scene couldnt begin to put on a performance like they do

i woke up the next morning and all the trees infront of my building had been uprooted from the sidewalk. classes were cancelled/empty....
|
i lost all my old mxpx cds so now im gonna go on youtube and relive being 15 years old for a few minutes...

i thought it was terrible and still do. 'cause it is. minus fugazi because fugazi rules. and if the ataris aren't emo i don't know what is. |

really? i mean i guess it makes sense because it's not like your entire relationship can or should be boiled down to one night but i dunno. |
Our lives, when we got married, didn't all of a sudden get erased and become one. Fuck that. She didn't change her name because she's her own person, she's not my property.
|
well yeah but still! no symbolic indication of love and commitment or anything? it doesn't have to represent ownership or the loss of individuality.
i dunno i'm a bit of a sap so we might come at this from different angles |
hey Chris do you love your wife?

i just meant the night/ceremony in general. and why you'd rate it below a world series win. |
Oh I misread, I've had a lot of Troeg's Mad Elf tonight.
Our wedding day was perfect in every way, but that night in October was something I mentally never believed to be possible. It had emotion behind it that's indescribable stemming from family and friends growing up. Those two weeks were out-of-this-world in terms of nerves/pure joy. |
women don't take their husband's name here, it's not even legal anymore.
seriously that sounds so outdated to me. |
And I didn't need a formal ceremony to show the admiration or lifelong dedication I have for Kathryn, it was evident in all I did/still do.

but like i said i'm a sucker for stuff like that so i'll probably have a bigger attachment to the night than is necessary and ND will never win a national championship so i'll probably never have a comparable situation. heh. |
it pisses me off that sppunk has a hot cool wife that he ranks second behind a fucking baseball team while i am dying for companionship and will never get married. fuck you.
